Bridge pickup, middle position...

I was hoping to get some insight - I have my pups for the warmoth custom I'm building and I made a discovery that was a little frustrating....

I ordered a neck Hot Rails pup to go into the middle position of HHH guitar but received a bridge pickup instead. Has anyone used a bridge pickup (hopefully an SHR1 Hot Rails!) in the middle position? How did this affect your sound in comparison to a neck or middle configured pup in that slot?

Thanks!

Aye - which is the 64 dollar question (or about 78 if I remember right) - do I ride the lighting past the return date with the thought that the bridge Hot Rails is fine in the middle, or are there enough who've tried it and say, "Dammit Jim, are you mad?"....

Re: Bridge pickup, middle position...

What are the dcr's on the other two pickups you're planning on using?

May fit in just fine...

Re: Bridge pickup, middle position...

depends on the sound you're looking for. I use bridge position pups in the middle position of a few guitars. for me, it works well for when I want something with some output but a little less bite. good for fatter-sounding solos.

is it the new style or old style Hot Rails? either way, I might can take it if you don't want it.

Mrkt Name--Model---DC Resistence.Resonant Peak
Full Shred---SH-10---7.4 Kohm----5.5 KHz
Hot Rails----SHR-1---16.9 Kohm---3.5 KHz
Dimebucker-SH-13---16.25 Kohm---5.1 KHz

darthphineas, I do want this lady to have a phat arse, but I'm just worried that it's going to overrun the Dimebucker. The tone chart is in line with what I'm after, but it's magnetics and interconnected behavior that I'm sweating a little. I appreciate the offer but if I make this call early enough they'll go back to Amazon (yes, Amazon!). Thanks both!

Re: Bridge pickup, middle position...

Yeah, I think that'll run a little loud.

Remember, you'll also be getting more energy from a greater range of string movement.

I think the neck Hot Rails that you originally ordered will be just the ticket.

Re: Bridge pickup, middle position...

one return request coming up!
Thanks again jt - common sense and pickup sense are darn close but its a new world and I'd rather not be lazy and risk asking a stupid question - those are my specialty!

you also have to look at that resonant peak. I'd be shocked if that HRb in the middle will over-run that Dime. at best/worst, it'll be a smooth output transition from bridge to middle. but the specs for the neck HR will make a niced stepped transition from bridge to middle to neck without any big blasts or huge drops offs.

it definitely sounds like you have something specific in mind and you should go for it.
