I personally like the Distortion with my Les Paul. On the other hand i changed the mag in my 490R to an A5, it now definitly in the ballpark of the JazzN.

Had for a while a 490r with A5 mag in the neck slot of one of my les paul. it sounded similar to a t-top with a grainy sound. Don't dislike it but the 59 is Amazing even with its default mah. With A4 is simply fantastic

I'm testing 490r with alnico 5 and JB on bridge.
490r is now much more open. I never try 59. But I think jazz N is better than 490r with A5.
Is time to try Distortion Tb6 on bridge. First with original ceramic mag. And after with alnico 5. Is one JB trembucker.

Sorry for my bad english. But you want to say you are now using 490R with alnico 5 and not using JazzN?

I have to say, there was never a pickup set I hated more than the 490r & 490t. They sounded like dollar store vanilla ice cream.

IMO the worst gibson combo is 57 classic/57 classic+ among the others. Someone else in this forum labeled them "dull and uninspiring". I am not so severe but they don't worth the price

I´m testing Duncan Tb6 on bridge, but I like more JB.

Today I receive some alnico bars. I go try to swap ceramic from TB6 and put one Alnico 5.
