Do any old bridge pins fit any old acoustic bridge? I want to replace the el-cheapo black plastic bridge pins in my Taylor 214 to a new set of ebony w/ pearloid dot ones (I think... I'm still between Ivroid and wood also).

The problem is, I don't know one type from another. Taylor themselves sell bridge pins on their site, but they only have the ones I currently have and ebony w/ abalone dots. The abalone's wouldn't fit with my guitar look-wise (as my fret markers are just pearloid), so I'm not going to get these. Stew-Mac sells bridge pins, but heck-if-I-know if they'll fit right. The specs for those are 5 degree taper and .07" string slot (they're slotted on my guitar)

While we're at it, I'll throw up a poll for which type of bridge pin ya'll think will compliment the guitar's looks the best
you can see the options here under the slotted column: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges.../Acoustic_Guitar_Bridge_Pins_and_Endpins.html

The only way to really tell is to try them. Sometimes the bridge pin holes can be worn and a little bigger than normal. Depending on what type you get, they may have good taper that will make them fit near anything.

yeah but if they don't fit, then WTF do I do with them? I may as well have taken my money and flushed it right down the toilet and I suddenly have useless guitar parts laying around that I can't use

Which is why I'm inquiring to some people here who may have tried them before

I think you we're a little rude to trevorus :naughty: What he said was a genuine observation - bridge holes can become bigger over time.

If it we me I'd contact Taylor and ask them for the specs on their bridge pins (assuming yours are the original ones) and see if they match the ones at Stew Mac.

Re: Bridge Pin for Taylor.. Will they fit???

Yeah I thought about that, but I was thinking that they were likely to give me an answer saying something of the sort that I'd need to buy theirs and that their's are 100% recommended and that I should re-buy the same ones I already have now.

I put StewMac bridge pins in my Taylor 314C. They fit fine.

Your stock bridge pins were slotted? Mine weren't.

I don't actually know as I haven't ever taken them out yet. The guitar is only a few weeks old, so I haven't had to put new strings on it (which I'm actually about to do tomorrow).

But from looking closely at the pins, they looked to be slotted.... but then again I wouldn't know a slotted bridge pin if it bit me in the ass, so what do I know?

Welcome to the wonderful world of guitar modification!:friday:

Re: Bridge Pin for Taylor.. Will they fit???

I must say that I'm starting to think the Ivroid and Snakewood more than the Ebony....

The Ivroid complements the binding and saddle very well, as where the Snakewood kind of blends in with the bridge and sort of shines on it and has the little white dot to go with the binding and whatnot

And I might go ahead and order a bone saddle from that place Lew listed... I mean $20 for a bone saddle that all you have to do is set the height on it is a **** nice price considering I've heard that techs will charge about $50 or so to make one

Re: Bridge Pin for Taylor.. Will they fit???

can anyone point me to a good site to find "size 1" bridge pins??? I can't find ANYTHING but bone, ivory, walrus, etc...

I want to find size 1 ebony, tusq or ivoroid, and other woods, but I can't find anything!

I like the look of the ivoroid/tusq the best, but I don't want it's effects on the tone; the last thing a Taylor needs is more treble and clarity.... I need warmth to balance it out more which I get from EBONY

Re: Bridge Pin for Taylor.. Will they fit???

So according to that site, I need pins that are 3 degree tapered and slotted? Well that's quite contrary to what Fresh_Strat said haha. Stew Mac's fit perfectly fine in his apparently, and those are 5 degree tapered and his were unslotted haha

hm.... god this sucks haha

Well, that site Lew linked to seems to know more than I do. Thanks Lew!

Also, I bought unslotted pins and then slotted them myself - a different size slot for each string. Could they fit better? Apparently with a 3 degree taper they would. I may have re-sized them a bit while I was at it and just forgot. That happens when you get older ;)

BTW if picking bridge pins frustrates you, please do not mess with your saddle. IMHO you are destined to regret it.
