Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

The way he constantly manipulates his controls, everything, is amazing.

I've considered getting his set from time to time, but my gut says I won't like the bridge pickup and the neck won't play right with a bridge pickup that I do like.

Back on topic, I've used an SSL-6 in the neck position for a long time. It works very well when paired with a medium to hot bridge. I got tired of the hum and switched to a JB Jr., which I'm still trying to get used to. Sometimes I wish I had gone for a hot rails, but as I'm typing this, the STK-S6 is coming to mind. The JB Jr. and Hot Rails are the neck versions and I don't know that the S6 was designed specifically for the bridge, but I think the SSL-6 was.

I have a T.V. Jones Classic Plus bridge in the neck of my Tele. The thing gives crystal clean janggly tones. With some gain I get a grerat Malcom Young vibe, which was the goal of putting it in there.

Actually, I don't think the SSL-6 was specific to the bridge (we sell a Custom SSL-5 set..same pickup in all 3 positions), so I doubt the S6 is specific to the bridge. 'Bridge' and 'neck' are just words anyway. I do like the fuller sound of the S6 (or Hot Rails) over the JB Jr. , but that is just my preference.

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

I thought the 6 was just the flat version of the 5 which I thought was designed for David Gilmour to be used in the bridge.

Why didn't you tell me your opinion about the JB Jr. in the thread that I started?

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

The Air Norton is another pickup designed for the bridge but (more?) commonly used in the neck.

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

Another common bridge-neck swap: EMG 81 and EMG 85. I happen to be one of those that prefer the 85 in the bridge.

Maybe I missed it?

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

I didn't know they ever made a neck version of the JB, only the Jazz neck. A bright, mid-forward humbucker could be great for scooped guitars. Is there a full sized one or just the Jr?

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

Jr. and despite the BMT graph, the pickup is fairly scooped.

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

I was comparing it to the bridge JB Jr, which I had tried. I am not a JB fan in any form I have tried, though.

Re: Bridge Pup in Neck, Opinions/Experiences?

You might like the JB Jr. Neck model, Mincer.

Thanks for the follow-up on this.
