bridge PUP - Pearly Gates or Custom Custom?

I have an Ibanez artist - mahangony body / maple cap - I have decided on an Alnico II pro for the neck - which bridge pup should I choose for a classic rock (Slash-y) bridge PUP?

I've gotten recommendations for both the PG and CC.

For Slash go with what Slash uses: a calibrated set of AII Pros.

Although both are two of my very favorite pickups, the Custom Custom is not Slash's tone....to smooth, to overwound, and to thick in the mids for Slash's tone. Neither is the Pearly Gates.... it has that Texas Sizzle thing and that's not Slash's tone either.

Just my personal opinion, I've used both the Pearly Gates and the CC in my Hamer Special FM (mahogany body with maple cap) and I much prefer the CC. It gives an amazing mid push that I really love. The harmonics jump out of it fairly easily as well. Not as well as my Distortions, but nice enough for what I do with that guitar.

Of course, that being said, it sounds absolutely nothing like Slash.

Ok - I know that the Alnico II - CC combo isn't exactly a Slash tone, do you think this combo will work well in a mahongany/maple (Les Paul) style guitar? I do want a good classic/hard rock sound.

I'm afraid the Alnico II combo will be too limiting? Am I right, or just being paranoid.

There are TOO MANY choices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :smack:

:saeek:

If you had to pick between those two pickups I would lean towrads the CC although as said above it probably would not mimic the Slash tone.

This is kind of a tough question since the AII Pro bridge is not really all that much different than the neck (spec wise) so your concern about verstility may be a valid. What would be great is an little hotter wound AII Pro with a little added brightness. I am wondering if an uncoverd Seth Lover might do the trick?

I have used both the PG and the CC. For Slashes tone you can get a bit closer with a CC in my opinion than a PG. Go with the CC.
