Bright Cutting Edge Pickup

Re: Bright Cutting Edge Pickup

If 78 has alnico 2 magnet alnico 2 are to soft sounding not enough edge brightness

Magnet does not determine the eq or tone. It can affect it certainly, but does not define it. Pearly Gates and the 78 (A2) have some of the brightest top end among Duncan pickups I’ve used, about equal to the Custom (Ceramic) and Jazz (A5) I have.

You really have to try the pickups to find out. Or trust guys who spent the money and tried them before you.

Re: Bright Cutting Edge Pickup

We could list every bright pickup ever known to man, but if we don't know what else he has lined up in his signal path, we can't help him.

If he's playing an all-mahogany Les Paul through a Mesa DC-3, for example, and we don't know that, we can't give a single meaning full answer.

Re: Bright Cutting Edge Pickup

I really like the brightness/openness of the Duncan 59(bridge)I thought about putting a alnico 8 or ceramic magnet and see what happens.

An A8 in a 59 actually sounds very good. It won't necessarily give you more "bright cutting edge", but imo it gives you a better tone than the 59 with A5.

Re: Bright Cutting Edge Pickup

If you try the 78 or PG and feel they're not bright enough, it's a simple procedure to put in an A5.

Re: Bright Cutting Edge Pickup

I play a Marshall 68 plexi clone 50 watt modded Rockstah Mod 5,EVH 4x12 cab, echoplex,MXR phase 90,flanger,Plate reverb, the guitar I want to do a pickup change(bridge pickup)is a Gibson les Paul Traditional Pro with Floyd rose

wow, you're really on a quest there!

i own a sd custom shop high voltage set. it's also Alnico 2 and it is very bright and cutting. the reduced bass helps.
for centuries i never touched alnico 2 PU because of my past experiences with gibson 57s, APH-1s and gibson 490Rs. well the pearly gates and this set showed me that i was totally wrong for years. so don't let the alnico 2 scare you away from pearlies, '78s etc.

most neck pickups in the Bridge Slot fit the description of the thread title/OP by the way.

Indeed. My taste (and setup) prefers full and thick.
The Super 70 did give really good sustain, that much I remember.

Re: Bright Cutting Edge Pickup

A neck Pearly with an A5 (or even an A8) in the bridge would be awfully bright and cutting!
