This is why i don't fancy with dark pickups. If you have a balanced (to your guitar and setup) pickup you can get your tone needs simply with the tone and volume knob. Moreover the cure for brightness is easier to find than the dark&dull one

Why do dark pickups still work and work very well sometimes? The Invader is a classic, so is the Tone Zone which comes stock in the bridge of many pricey Ibanez guitars.

Well, I think it has to do with the music being made. If you are in a one guitar band, they seem to occupy different frequencies than the vocals, so it works...also in bright guitars.
