Brighter/coil split replacements for duncan designed 'detonator' (invader)?

Hello all,

My guitar has a set of Duncan-designed 'detonator' pickups which I understand are based on the Invader.

I don't play metal, and am looking to swap them for something brighter that's better suited for classic rock with some clean.

I have ordered a set of push-pull pots so I can coil split, but am struggling with which new pickups to choose. Doesn't necessarily HAVE to be Duncan pickups even.

Really like the smooth visual appearance of the blackouts/EMG, but those all seem to be active/heavier tone. I'd be ok with aftermarket plastic covers if they won't affect tone too much.

Any advice on which pickups to look at would be much appreciated.

The Dave Mustaine active version of the Jazz/JB combo with the smooth covered aesthetic. It's a louder low impedance version of one of the most popular classic rock combos ever.

For classic rock with a good bridge pickup split sound, I would say a Custom/'59 Hybrid with a '59 Neck. I presently have a '59 set in my Schecter PT partscaster, and I'm about to switch to the Hybrid to improve the split-coil sound.

If you really want the smooth-cover look, add aftermarket covers.

Thank you very much - so that'd be one of these at the bridge: https://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/59custom-hybrid?__uuid_ref=5b5ca9597bee0

and one of these at the neck? https://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/59-neck?__uuid_ref=5b5ca95122e0d

Would this wiring diagram be the best way to split them, or would I get better results isolating different coils/mounting them upside down?

Sorry - completely forgot to mention too - I'm playing more lead than rhythm - does that affect the recommendations?

Thanks ever so much for the help & advice. this is uncharted territory for me.

Well, that's the diagram I would use, or at least start with unless I heard something I didn't like. It should work great for what you want, either rhythm or lead. And yes, those are the pickups.

Perfect, thank you! Checked out the sound clips and they are exactly what I'm looking for. May need to see if a short leg version of the neck pickup is available.

Really appreciate the help guys, thanks a ton!

A lot of dealers stock the shorter leg version
