british blues speakers (ie the mayall sound)

Re: british blues speakers

Says the man who's had a set of blues!

Greenbacks and G12H30s are variations on a theme. Also some of the old H30s had a cloth surround and 55Hz cone which gives you more thump. The regular line Celestion has a 75Hz cone just like a greenback.

BTW why are you gettin rid of the Z best?

Re: british blues speakers

Celestion greenbacks, or the Eminence clone, the Red Coat Pvt Jack would work nice. The Eminence spkr has the advantage of being 50 watts, as opposed to the gb's 25.

You know what they say about working hard and people depending on you!

What head are you running with it?

I found a matching Z28 on TGP I'd love to fanagle both of them if I could sell MY Z! LOL

If your talking about the Clapton 'Beano Tone'? Alnico Blues.

Re: british blues speakers (ie the mayall sound)

if you want to get close, then you have a choice of several current production Celestions

if you want to NAIL the tone, you might consider contacting Jim @ Scumback. His speakers aren't cheap, but he's an expert on early Celestions.

Well...Clapton used a JTM-45 during his stint with the BB's and his amp was made during the time when they werw switching from Blues to Greenbacks so thats a crap shoot...with Peter Green played in the BB's he used a JTM-45 head with a 4x12 loaded with Greenbacks...I would say that Greenbacks are a sure bet!
