Is your primary amp tone British (EL-34, EL-84) or American (6L6, 6V6)?
What guitar and amp do you consider your main sound?

If you're confused because you're playing a solid state amp......beat it! :D
Nah, just kidding! Which model or tone style would you say it falls under?
British or American?

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

For cleans, i prefer an "american" style amp with 6L6, 6V6 or 6550 valves.

For crunch to high gain, NOTHING beats EL34's (british type amps) in my book :).

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I voted british because right now that is what I'm using... EL-84's, I plan on puttin' a SFX-03 in front to see if that give me some more rippin' distortion, if it doesn't I'm switching back to 6L6's

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I voted british because I use an EL84 amp, and also because my favorite tube of all time for guitar tones is a KT66.

However you can't knock Fender clean tones.

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I've a JCM900 with 6L6(5881) and JCM800 with EL34s

Both sounds good to me. But I'd prefer using 6L6

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I've found that it's usually the best amp you've ever owned that you gravitate toward, regardless of EL-34 or 6L6, but all things being equal, I prefer EL-34 or the higher powered ones E-34L. I still love 6L6's. I spend years playing 6L6's amps, then all of the sudden went to EL-34's, and now I recognize the good points of both, but still like the way EL-34's hit the breakup point a little better.

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

For very high gain stuff, the poweramp sounds pretty transparent, so I suspect the difference in sounds has way more to do than a simple power tube swap. However I tend to prefer the grainier Marshall tone for crunch and heavy distortion, the gritty Bassman overdrive for blues and 6L6s/6V6s for cleans (Delux Reverb... :D )

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

My main amp is my Orange AD30 (EL34s and a valve Rectifier) but my 2 Marshall amps have EL34's in them. So I guess you can say I'm firmly in the 'British camp' :D

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I can't vote for BOTH ???? :dunno:

Depends on my mood, but I'm normally playing both 6V6 (Fuchs ODS-20) & KT66s (Celtic Edana) A/B'd

I dunno....I like them ALL so I won't vote....How's that???

:D

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I like both,But I voted American Mainly because most of the amps I've owned over the years have been 6L6/6V6 based amps.:D

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

The new Marshalls "feel" kind of stiff to me.
Never tried the older ones though.

Crate (6V6) and Peavey (6L6) seem to have a much more alive 3-D sound to me.

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

6L6 or KT88 please.

I voted Brit but my main rig has both.

i love so much your rig dude... XDD

anyway, i´ve played both brit and american amps, marshall and mesa, and i prefer mesa boogie sound a lot more than marshall, i´m not sure that my like is all oriented to the tube choice, maybe if i change to el84 i´ll like the mesa more than the marshall too...

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I love Engls which are German and basically a bit of a cross between a Mesa and a Marshall, but a bit more on the American side.

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

British VOX or similiar i like beta then american
but the Orange ROCKERVERB sounds good and i love fenders for surf.
Hard one but i think the circuitry makes more difference
and i like ORANGE and VOX beta then fender so i spose british.
