I voted tonally confused because the KT-66 sounds both american and british. It's essentially a british tube, so I guess I should have voted that way eh?

I have both 6L6's and EL34's in my Mark IV. For me it's the best of both worlds. Nice fenderish..... cleans.. with a little bit of that britt in the crunch.
Works for me anyways...

I've been mainly playing my Marshall for awhile now, but I have two Fenders as well. It depends on what I'm into at the moment, though.

Yeah... Do Fenders with 6L6s sound anyhing like Marshalls with KT66s? The character of the overdrive is what I'm talking about here.

My primary and only guitar amp is an EL34 Marshall, so I guess I'll take the Brit option.

I'll have to side with American tube tone, especially Mesa Mark series and the Peavey 5150. I'm not a fan of the British mid sound most of the time.

I really like my EL84s in my Dr. Z, they have a nice throaty breakup that isn't harsh, but don't have quite the low end of a 6V6. Nothing sounds like a Fender with 6L6s or 6V6s clean; but I'll be interested to hear the tones out of the new 30 watt Voodoo with 6V6s.

My Marshall uses KT88s which sounds like a warmer fuller 6550 or a 6L6/EL34 cross....so I'm oddball there.

I use both but I prefer the British tone. My main amp is VHT with a quartet of EL84s. I also own a Fender Hot Rod Deville which I rewired to use EL 34s. Not a big difference in sound though, like changing to a lighter gauge of strings.

I really like the way that el-84 amps sound when playing through them with humbuckers . . . they seem to be a little brighter and sound nicer to me (Even when playing clean)

the brit EL34 is best cranked for a nice natural gain.

the american 6L6 powered amps are great for nice clean sound.

i think they are both great but they serve 2 different purposes.

i'd use a JCM 800 and a fender blackface.

a cranked EL34 powered marshall jcm 800 simply has more bite and roar than anything else i've tried. my 50W JCM 800 had more authority than my 120 W 5150 amp.
