Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

I have always liked both

but in band situations and for distortion the EL34s and EL84 just sound great cranked. The best part, there is a balance, esp in the mids and highs that lets you sound good without a ton of EQ and junk.

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

Got a Gibson GA-5 which is my main amp now. Its American - a reissue of an amp that was made in '56 in the USA but it has an EL84 and a SS rectifier. Kinda wierd. The original one had a 6V6 and a tube rectifier (maybe the 5y3) so I dont know what that is about. The original one also had a jensen alnico loaded speaker but mine has a gibson goldtone special design speaker with a ceramic magnet. That makes no damn sense either but according to them they did hours of sound testing and came up thought that that stuff sounded more like the original. Whatever... Sounds american to me, very tweedish as you can tell by the original tube/speaker compliments.

Also have a Vox AD15VT but I only use the bassman setting on that with some effects on my Boss GT-8. Hope to get a Tweed amp in the near future that will really put me on the American side...

Re: British Vs. American Tube Tone. Poll

Right now I'm usin 6l6, but I tend to prefer amps with EL34's. The Krank can add a bit of a british twist to the 6l6's though ;).
