Scott, after all of the love that MJ and Seymour put into this, there is no way it will suck! They wouldn't put anything out there on this level that would suck. It may not work in all guitars, or meet everyones expectations however.
Quite honestly at this point I don't care. We were treated like kings on this one and I'm almost afraid to ruin it by putting it in a guitar! I shoulda ordered two!
BTW, a priority mail box came yesterday and I had such a boner! Unfortunately it was just a box for my daughter

TODAY: Took DiMarzio VHOT PAF out of Les Paul (Many like this pickup. I found it ok, but unremarkable). Brobucker not fitting well in pickup mounting ring (otherwise I'd be done by now and have an initial review). 10K is a thick wind with 42PE wire and pickup cover is bulging to clear winds. Accordingly the ring is pinching the cover and causing it to sit at an angle. I'm going to have to sand down the ring just a little so it has better clearance and sits square to the ring.
I didn't plan on starting the installation until tomorrow, but I found a few minutes today. Have to stop now, I have an event to attend. Will complete installation tomorrow.

Tease.....
Mine hasn't arrived yet. It takes at least a week with UPS ground to get to me from Cali. I'm not sure they all shipped at the same time.

yeah fedex will be running monday....and briand got his and I didnt get mine :yell: I am SOOOO jealous....we are going to Vinnies to have some food and a couple of beers and he wont bring it for me to see....hopefully mine will be here monday...:fingersx:

Done. Paired mine with a '59 neck.
This is my first Custom Shop/hand/scatter wound pickup and I'm finding a big difference from standard floor models. Very clear. It's making me play differently because I can't hide behind droning or mud. You have to play better with this pickup.
At first I had problems with it sounding a little too dark and boomy on the lower strings. Had to back the pickup away from the strings and it seems better now. High notes have sounded very good at all settings. But still, this pickup seems very sensitive to adjusment.
My head is reeling from the simple difference between this and a machine wound pickup. It really is quite different. Too early to give a proper review. Notes are very big sounding. It's very sensitive to even minor knob tweaks on my rig.
