Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

Am I really the only one that got their Brobucker thus far?

Wait Scott and Evan have theirs.

Well Evan just had to pick his up before he left. :)

Is UPS blue 2day or 3 day? It looks like they shipped last thursday. 2day would arrive monday then.

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

Spent some more time adjusting the pickup and getting it to sit squarely in the pickup ring...this pickup is excellent. Hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I.

Thanks again to MJ for making such a great pickup.

Was it everything you wanted or expected? Could you describe what it sounds like?

I'm hoping mine comes today. I *may* be able to do some clips if it gets here soon enough.

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

It's pretty close to what I expected. I'm not very good as describing tone so I'll keep it simple...

It'a a little hotter than I expected, especially considering the degaussed mag. Lots of power and punch. Just a little on the dark side (had to turn some knobs on my rig to get it where I like it). Big single notes. Complex sounding (as I'm guessing most scatterwound pickups are). Good string separation. Doesn't have as much midrange honk as a true PAF, but maintains some of the character and clarity. I'm going to get lambasted for this, but at one point I suggested slightly colder wind to maintain a tone closer to the PAF thing...I was immediately shut down. No love lost, this is a great pickup and I think Duncan was great to do this. By voting on specs price was kept way down...very cool.

If you have a hybrid I'll say this is darker, more powerful sounding (particularly in the lows, something I found lacking in the hybrid), fewer harmonics, slightly more complex.

Why would we want it to sound exactly like a PAF? We already have that sound in 6 other production pups

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

Seriously, did these all ship last thursday? I need to know when to speak up if things don't arrive.

I think I might have liked it a little cooler too, but that is okay. I may very well order one like it in a while with a cooler wind. I may like the darker tone though...

.... a little on the dark side

This concerned me once the specs were finallized. And was why I had hoped for a vote to the full strength A5 with that kind of overwind. The only guitar I have to put it in right now, won't be seeing it then as it's dark enough as is. Grrrr.

Doesn't have as much midrange honk as a true PAF...

Considering the overwind..I'm surprised it lacks mids..or do you mean just "nasaly" qualities vs. actual Mids in the EQ curve?

fewer harmonics, slightly more complex.

Do you mean pinch harmonics? (i.e. ease of getting them?)

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

PS. What guitar did you put this in?

And thanks for the post over on the Tokai forums :)

Dark is a relative term. I will reserve judgement until I get to hear mine.

Not making any judgements...but I know my guitar. Once i know what poorman installed his in...I'll have a better idea whether its worth a try in the guitar I have for it. Otherwise it will hafta wait.

Wasn't intended to be a judgement, just a figure of speech in a general statement. It really is relative in terms of what people like in terms of tone.

Actually dark would be a very good thing for my application.

My Brobucker is here! I won`t be installing it right away as I might even get another Strat to put it in. I ordered the tremspace Brobucker but there`s nothing noted on the box or pickup that it`s tremspaced so I`ll assume that it is. Thanks to everyone that made this happen!

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

51501984, you should see 3 holes on the mounting tabs, to confirm it's a trem-bucker. Also did yours come with a nickel cover and was it soldered on?
