Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

UPS did a drive by here. They left a package... and it's here!!! I feel like I am opening something magical like someone on here stated earlier. It still sits in the brown box waiting to unveil it's Holyness or in JP's world unholyness...

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

for those of you that are keeping track my Brobucker has just been delivered...now if I just had something to put it in.

For thoseof you that have never tried/ownes a CS Duncan you're in for a real treat...this is my 7th CS pickup...I still get excited when I open the box!

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

Brown stopped by during my after dinner nap. I'll have to install it this weekend to hear what it sounds like myself, but I will say that I'm impressed by the clip that was posted.

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

My impression of the Brobucker:

I installed it into my Charvel 750xl sans cover, replacing a 59b, paired with a 59n. 1st impression: yeah, this thing is pretty dark. It's more articulate than the 59 that was in there, but it seems kind of boomy as well. I didn't really hear much of a difference. So I went about adjusting the height and the individual pole pieces. 2nd impression: Hot crap on a stick. I'm glad I got this thing. It is very articulate and harmonics jump out of it like crazy. For being a moderately low output humbucker, pinch harmonics are ridiculously easy to coax. The highs are clear without being overly bright and shrill. And it has plenty of mids to satisfy even my mid-loving self. I find that I can get equally good rhythm and lead tones from this pickup, and that's a rare thing for me to do. I could easily install this in a single humbucker guitar and never miss the neck pickup. Good job on the Brobucker. It's a keeper.

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

I think I'm the last one lol. I hope it didn't get delivered to the wrong place, from what I've heard it sounds like a great pickup.

A man after my own heart! I just installed the BB in my R7 and am quite impressed so far. I would say that it has prominent mids, nice chimey top end and solid but not farty low end. It is very rich and complex sounding and seems to have slightly less output than the Wagner Filmore that it replaced and has a similar tone though a bit tighter overall. It matches with the Filmore neck quite well, though I had to lower the neck even more and raise the BB to balance out the output. This pup is a sure winner for SD, imho. This pup is a keeper, but I'll have to spend some more time with it in the R7 to figure out whether or not to put the Filmore Bridge back in and save the BB for another guitar. But rest assured, this is a kickass pup! Great job MJ!!!!!

How is she tonally versus the Fillmore? Does she do the Duane Vibe?

I just got mine.

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

no showy uppy yet :( I've got nothing to put it in anyway...but I'd like to see it :)

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

When you adjust the pole pieces, what do you listen for. I don't really know what the pole pieces do exactly. I guess what I'm looking for is the theory as to why you do this. I want to LOVE this pickup, and any kind of adjustment advice would be extremely appreciated.

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

I got mine yesterday night too, after a moment of Monty Python silliness I got inside and started tearing down the Heritage.

Unfortunately due to plumbing problems I had to stop after I got the guitar gutted, but I got started again about 8:30 or so.

I now have an Alnico 2 Pro Bridge in the neck, and a brobucker wound to 10K in the bridge slot, I've got 10-52s on the guitar.

I played through my 64 Vibro Champ, my Dr. Z Maz Jr 2X10 and my Leslie 18. Remember this is my INITIAL thoughts

Cleans---Fantastic...The brobucker sounds like a very large 59 meets PGP. The cleans are very full and sparkly. Mixed with the A2P bridge it sounds great. The combo makes a sweet yet full clean sound. The high end has a bit of bite, but rounded. There is a LOT of bass in this pup, at least compared to the A2P bridge.

Dirty----Overdrive really made the bass jump out (to me). The string pull is lighter and the sound is smoother than a 59 or PGP, but it has that stiffer A5 overdrive feel, the high end cuts through pretty well.

If you can believe it the covers are on the pups where I could judge what it would sound like to most people. This pup would be well suited to any style I would think. It's got more oomph, but still has the clarity of a regular PAF. I think I would prefer it with an A2 mag though. I haven't put it through the Marshall simply due to the fact Jeff has it, my guess is that through a Marshall or Mesa it is a BEAST!

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

I got to bask in the aura last night, but Luke took too long deciding whether or not to take the covers off, so I went home. It looked cool, and oozed mojo. I may have to go back over there tonight.

So who has taken the cover off? If I remember correctly it is double cream underneath?

I think with the cover off it will be MAJORLY bright without an A2 mag. I think the pup is brighter than most it seems.

BTW mine was made on Valentine's day too, so I shall use the name D!ck came up with...it is....the Philly-bucker!!!

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

I took the cover off, and it is definitley not too bright. I can't stand bright pickups, and this one still makes me happy. And yes, it is double cream. The Trembucker is zebra.

Hey Lee, tonally the BB is REALLY close to the Fillmore but the Fillmore has a bit more sweetness as well as loosness that captures that Duane vibe a bit better. It's also slightly lower output than the Fillmore, but that's not really an issue. The BB can really snarl and yet clean up beautifully, she's a keeper that's for sure.

Re: Brobucker Comes to Life! Lotsa pics!

I didn't realize it was brown delivering...

Now I'm gonna have to pay the custom fees (no problem) + their brokerage fees (50$)... damn...

I still can't wait tho :)

Does the Fillmore use an a2 magnet? That would explain the looseness and the sweetness!

You know, that sounds pretty stupid without any explanation.

Luke said he was going to call it the "Love-Bucker," so I came to the "Philly" conclusion, since that's the City of Brotherly Love.

Unless you're from Dallas. :D

I don't know about you, but "brotherly love" is not what I'm looking for on Valentine's.

People adjust their pole pieces a number of ways. Some match the radius of the strings, some adjust by ear, others don't adjust at all. It's a matter of preference. Basically you are adjusting the volume of the respective string by moving the polepiece closer or further away from the string. It'll also affect tone to a point. Experiment and let your ears guide you.
