Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

Installed my brand new used Brobucker (thank you very much slightly_rude!) tonight. Plugged it into my brand new used TS9 (thank you Eric Meyer!). Plugged that into my Falcon, cranked of course, and just got the most beautiful distorted sounds I've *ever* personally played.

I'm not saying this would outdo a Bogner Shiva or really any of your rigs, because most of you all go for distorted tones. But coming from a generally clean background, playing through an amp that stays clean until 10, I've never been happier.

I suppose to encompass everyone, my thread title should read:

"Brobucker>Your Favorite Overdrive Pedal>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?"

But as it is now, I can't afford anything better than this Tube Screamer. And my Falcon is the second to last piece of gear I would ever sell, it's that good. So like I said, for someone else's taste in overdrive/distortion/metal tones, maybe something else would be better. But for my personal taste in this type stuff, I've found *that* combination. Later in life I'll obviously invest in some sort of excellent Marshall/Vox/Orange/Bogner-type amplifier. And that'll be an upgrade over the Falcon in distortion (if definitely not cleans).

But for now, I'm completely stoked and floored by how good this is.

That's a really cool rig, to be sure. Glad you're having fun :D

I've heard rave reviews of this 'crystal meth' all the kids are smokin -- they say it's the best thing on earth so i dunno.

Definitely a good lookin rig man. That Les Paul should be mine.

Thanks dude! But, to be sure:

is about 30 times more badass than:

:) Now I'm a clean, rockabilly freak, so my rig is pretty much perfect for what I do. There aren't many - if any - changes I'd make. But a TS9>Falcon is simply not a Bogner>Splawn. That's for sure!

:lmao: Thanks! For the right price it probably could be yours! Minus the Brobucker of course, I think I'm gonna hang on to it. My God what a pickup! Besides TV Jones, it's the only one that stays completely - fingerpickingly - clear under lots of gain. I can be going crazy with strumming, then break it up instantly with some fingerpickin', and you can hear the strings. That's basically unprecedented amongst pickups outside of TV Jones (who devoted his life to that goal).

Wow - blown away.

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

The Brobucker is one of those magical pickups. Why? Because we let Maricella design a pickup and name it. That's why I'm annoyed by all the newbs who think they'll put together some BS frankenstein pickup and call it our forum pickup.

My idea of forum pickups is to suggest that she make the best sounding pickup possible, and now I think it should be the ultimate A2 humbucker. However, newbs on the forum think they're smarter, and want to throw together ridiculous specs. They'll end up wasting $110 because they didn't listen to daddy joneser! LOL Hand the reigns to MJ and Seymour.....they weren't born yesterday when it comes to pickups.

And yes...they'll argue that they want an original idea. Guess what....original ideas equal crap they wouldn't have personally designed. The Brobucker was a hit because we asked for an A5 10K pickup that kicks butt. They delivered. Now, I ask for an A2 humbucker that beats all the production ones.

Now, we've got 16 year old newbs asking for middle singles and all kinds of BS. They'll end up with something that Duncan already makes for $50, and they'll pay $100 for it.
This is why you listen to guys like me, and not milky lickers like FenderPunk and Ibanezrocks. LOL

On that note Joneser, check this out:

I've got an awesome idea:

Over the next few months, we should have a series of elaborate polls on every single element of the pickup's construction - type of pickup/magnet type/resistance/number of coils/slug type/number of windings/gauge of wire/brand of wire/color of bobbin/logo or no logo/cover or no cover/potted or not/2 or 4 conductor/braided wire or modern wire/Fed Ex or UPS.

Because all of us arguing incessantly over every one of the most minute details is sure to produce better results than the single best mind in the pickup industry (and possibly the history of the pickup industry) creating something truly special, unique, and perfect for us.

Yes, let's do it that way!

:)

But I would like a single coil neck pickup. Don't need a humbucker, want to get get a single coil neck for my Strat.

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

The Brobucker is definately a cool pickup, but it didn't completly blow my socks of in my Hamer through my Rivera.

Is there something wrong with me? ;)

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

Well I think part of it is that I have the super opposite P90 in the neck. It's full of mids and lows and not bright at all, and it's a pretty great compliment to the Brobucker. So for chugging away at rythym power chords, the Brobucker fills the bill perfectly. Or doing rockabilly/psychobilly type stuff where you go straight from chords into fingerpickin'. The P90 is perfect for solos and very warm, smooth overdriven sounds. But it gets muddy fast when overdriven in complex chords, like 6ths or add9s or something like that. So I switch it back to the Brobucker for those.

Good mix, I'm really enjoying it. I think ultimately a P-Rails is gonna go in the neck, but it needs to be cream.

Oh, and no nothing is wrong with you! :)

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

Yeah, I agree, the "forum pickup" should be a badass pickup that's offered a little more cheaply to the forum, not some bastardization and combination of the majority's "favorite specs." Why debate over 14k or 16k? It's like people feel entitled to creating their own pickup, rather than being thankful that the Custom Shop will offer them something awesome for less than the regular price - which to me shows that they don't understand the pickup's role in creating tone very well.

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

Hey BigAl, I'm so glad you like it... 'coz I backed out of that pick up so you could have it coz I already have one!!!! Lol. Enjoy my friend...... Mr. Jonser is right, it IS a magical pick up.

C'mon... Original ideas are cool. Lets make a strat middle pickup with a3 rods... :nervous:

I too think that this design thing is not working at all. But maybe they think we old farts shoul shut the **** up.

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

Benjy,

Its not surprising that you found the Demon more upfront than the BroBucker. That is due to its design. It has a weak a5 magnet where as the Demon should have quite a strong one. Thus, in a guitar in which the Demon sounds good, the brobucker would sound weak, and in a guitar in which the Demon sounds too cutting, somewhat icepicky, the Brobucker would sound great. It is definitely darker than the Demon, and I would say thicker (not in terms of having more output, but in terms of producing a full tone). Thus, you might enjoy putting a strong a5 into the Brobucker.

Thanks dude! Magical is right. I spent more time with it last night, which means that in the past 24 hours, I've spent more time playing my Les Paul than the past 6 months combined.

The Pearly Gates is a great pickup, but it just isn't even a contest between the two.

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

I kind of felt the same way yesterday playing my Agile LP copy with a CC into my TS9 into my galaxie 10...

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

I love the CC. Most people say it needs the right guitar I guess, but man I love it. And howd'ya like that Galaxie? I've heard good things about 'em. I don't really intend on buying one buy they look pretty fun.

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

Hey Big Al....... I glad it worked for you and your digging it. I hope you get a chance to plug that BroBucker equipped Lester into a Plexi, JMP or JCM800. It was an epiphany for myself for sure. I'm going to install my remaining one in my R8. I wish there was a way to keep the cover on and drive a high gain amp with it.
I'm with Joneser on the next forum pickup..maybe A3 instead of A2, either way, this time I would like black bobbins instead of double cream. Rock n f'ing Roll.

Re: Brobucker>Tube Screamer>Cranked Tube Amp. Anything better on Earth?

Yeah dude, I'll get the chance someday! I know there's a whole other world I'm missing out on right now - believe me.

Gotta stick to my priorities at the moment, but yeah I'll definitely be doing that someday.
