Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

Does anyone have experience with the sat night special bridge and brobucker? Considering both for my '60 lester and the full sat night set for an SG. Just curious as to the full EQ chart a bro bucker has, which isn't listed in it's description like all the non custom shop pickups show. How much mid and treble does it have? I've read a bunch of comments about the brobucker on an older thread, it sounds like I'd dig it. I like a not so bright bridge pickup with good low end and kinda neutral mids, not crazy boosted, but not gone either. Their dc is is almost identical, it's just the aged alnico5 vs the alnico 4 in the sat night. The sound clips for the sat night are not the same clips as all the other pickups unfortunately, the clean one has chorus on it and the clips sound doubled and too produced to be a neutral demo to my ears. I do like the specs on them though, thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

They'd both be very good pickups but would sound rather different to each other.
If you're guitar acoustically is bright, go for the A4, if it's darker, go for the A5

Re: Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

Just because they have similar DCR doesn't mean they are wound similar, there are varying types of insulation and wire gauges that play a role in the tone as well, there are also other factors.

That being said, I think the Brobucker is one of the best pickups Seymour Duncan makes. I'd describe the specifics, but it's been a while since I've played a guitar with one. The important thing to remember is that it's essentially a PAF overwound within an inch of its life.

Re: Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

i havent tried the sns yet, but its coming. the brobucker is a meaty overwound paf. fat bottom, full but not forward mids, and a present but not bright top end. i think it sounds great in brighter guitars, if your guitar is dark id either swap the magnet or get a different pup. the degaussed a5 softens the top and helps give the pup great character. fully charged would bring a sharper top end which might be good in a darker guitar. i loved the brobucker in a lp special, sounded amazing straight into a marshall. angus wouldve been proud!

AFAIK, both the Brobucker and the SNS use plain enamel 42 gauge wire, don't they? The Brobucker has an asymetrical wind, though, and my guess is the SNS is symmetrical like the rest of the production line.

Re: Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

the bro is asymmetrical but not by much maybe 0.4k with the stud coil the stronger of the two 5.2k/4.8k. and i believe you are correct that they are both #42 pe but there are a few varieties of #42 pe

Re: Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

Sometimes a pickup maker will advertise a pickup as #42 but it's is actually #42.2 or something like that.

Re: Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

ive never seen #42.2, but i have seen #42.5.

for example, i have two spools of #42 pe from the same company. #42 pe min-nom (thinner coating) and #42 nom-max (thicker coating). the wire itself is (in theory) the same but the amount of pe as insulation is different which will give a coil different properties

Re: Brobucker vs sat night special bridge

I swapped the magnet in a BroBucker from the original aged A5 to a rough cast A8 because I wanted more output. The resulting tones are IMO great and it is installed in a 1994 Gibson Les Paul Studio bridge position with the pole screws facing the neck. The pickup has really nice harmonics and complex overtones. Very sweet sounding. I have no experiance with a SNS , but am interested in possibly getting 1 for the neck position. Any thoughts or opinions about the sound of an SNS neck are welcome.

I haven’t seen the Brobucker mentioned in years.

It’s a great pickup.

42.5 is 0.06mm. I used to occassionally receive reels of red poly, which my brain was all but certain in believing that it sounded better. Haven't had any for a while, but I'm sure I remember it being easier to wind/remove compared to normal :-S
