Broken headstocks?? worth it?

Someone offered me a bass for $400 off its original price making it a $200

the bass headstock broke off above the nut. He glued it with clamps and stuff. and says it plays just like it used to. Is it possible for it to sound brand new would the glue and fix make the resonance or whatever worse??

im not rich, but ive always wanted a bass, so would this be a good investment?
would the tension of the strings make it fall apart eventually?
would i be able to sell it for more if i decided i didnt want it?

advice please

That looks like a pretty horrible repair job. Theres no way I'de buy that thing, at any price.

i bought a few Epiphone guitars with broken heastocks and repaired them myself.... Sometimes i wish i never bought them as they are not easy to unload in the future..... sound wise i'm sure they are different but i would not know the difference as i bought them that way....

But if the repair was done right the neck should be just as strong as before if not stronger...

but i now own 2 epiphones with busted headstocks and i paid $200 for each of them....

I agree with Low Fidelity. Whomever did that job doesn't care about quality, that's for sure.

I would NOT waste my time with that thing. Shame.

Wasn't it kmcguitars that just did an incredible repair job? His Epi was in much worse shape than that bass is.

Offer $150.

Better yet, if you can't do the repair yourself, then just get a cheapo bass used, you can get tons of great quality ones for $200, all day long.

I'd pass... 200 is still some cash and I wouldn't want to have to pay the same ammount or more on a repair (dunno how much a headstock break repair goes for so it could even be much less, beats me).

Think about it, if you are in doubt and you're being asked 200, imagine if you want to sell it later on? Can you get your 200 back?

Not to mention, that looks like a hideous job... definativelly doesn't induce any confidence.

i dont really care about looks btw. if it wouldnt affect sound i dont care. i just love schecters and with the electronics and nice schecter neck i thought that was a good deal.
whats a good bass you can find used cheap?

A sloppy repair job WILL affect the sound as well as other aspects and ultimately lead to needing to repair it again.

Good used basses cheap?

MIM's are a great buy. Some of the newer Squier's are quite good as well (higher end ones). G&L Tributes are a fantastic value for the money.

Thats a good model of bass, thats just not a particularly stunning specimen. Keep looking, you will get a better deal somewhere.

I've played all three of these and deemed them good quality basses. The Grind Bass is closest to the Schecter. Its defiantly a good bass.

I wouldn't buy a broken DEATH STAR for $200, and I LOVE blowing up planets.

You can get a brand new SX P-bass for that kind of money, bro. Don't let this guy F your A by selling you that B.

I dunno man, that repair job looks a little shady. I don't think it'd be worth it for $200.
