Im going to grab a guitar to use to take to tafe since idont feel comfortable taking my LP or my rich bich out that far since because of some of the loonies i run into im kinda worried about them getting stolen.

here are my three main choices (these are the equivelents of)
http://cgi.ebay.com/JACKSON-JS30KV-...ryZ33044QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/EPIPHONE-SG-...ryZ33034QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and

http://cgi.ebay.com/Gibson-SG-3-6-w...ZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem

(except epiphone instead of gibson).

what do you guys reckon i should go for?

im looking for a better quality king v because the low models kinda suck so if i can find one im gonna go for it but between those three what do you reckon?

What is "tafe"?

probally the closest thing i can think of to compare it to would be kinda like college in the US but kinda not... if someone can elaborate better go for it since i am obviously doing a pretty bad job doing it.

The Gibson for sure, I love SG's, and three pups won't hurt, the rotary switch is the only thing I'm not sure. Of course it costs a lot more than the others.
E: Yeah, you said Epi instead of Gibson, my bad.
Well, get teh black epi SG Custom

personally at the moment im heavily kinda leaning towards the les paul SG, i don't know it just looks perfect (except it feels a bit loose when i played it but nothing a proper setup couldn't fix). Thinkingabout getting a nice set of pickups eventually (phat cat in the middle anyone?).

im just curious with the 3 way switch in that guitar since it has 3 pickups, is the setup bridge/middle/neck or some other pickup select?

Go with the one you like. But if you're worried about the guitar getting stolen by loonies, I'd leave it stock. See if you can find one in the ugliest color, maybe even "decorate" it with some unpopular band stickers. If it survives the school experience with you, you could always customize it later.

I'd opt for the Epi SG-400 as well.

Another vote for the Epi SG Std. I have a few & love them. Inexpensive but well-built guitars. A hard case or padded gig bag will protect it. I don't know what you have for a used PU market, but I've gotten used Seymour Duncans, DiMarzios, and Gibsons for about half price, so for another $100 I can have some very nice sounding PUs, which I think puts an Epi on a par with a Gibson for tone quality.

The triple HB SG (or LP) looks great, but the middle HB just doesn't have a very good tone (maybe the magnetic fields clash?). Funny how virtually no one copied Gibson and Epiphone on this, while everyone copied the HSH and HSS concept. That tells you all you need to know about what works and what doesn't. But a triple HB guitar can be turned into a HSH or HSS by using Phat Cats or P-94's.

I just took an Epi SG Std to a gig at a beach bar & it sounded great. I wanted an inexpensive guitar due to the salt air. For the price range, to me there is nothing better than an Epi SG Std. In the USA, we have over 20 models of set neck Epi SG's out now, so you can get exactly what you want. How can you go wrong?

Can't believe I'm saying this but from those, yeah, +1 for the Epi SG Std.
But I can see you're getting GAS from the 3-HB so, whichever rocks your boat mate ;)

I was actually thinking of getting a PC middle and a jazz/jazz hb set up if i got the three humbucker sg, if i could find a 3 pickup one in all black i would definitely go for it and change the pickguard to black though
