Hey Guys,

Quick help, im looking at creating a "frankenstrat" type geetar. What humbuckers would you suggest to help me down the "brownsound' path?

Thanks guys,

Re: Brown Sounds

By Brown Sound you mean EVH? Well get a nice Marshall...that's better than half of Eddie's Brown Sound right there.

Then a 59 Trembucker for vintage '60 paf tone or a Custom Custom Trembucker for a stronger, more mordern tone with smooth pronounced mids that will let you squeeze notes like toothpaste from a tube if you have the technique.

For a neck pickup I'd go with a Alnico 2 Pro N if you like Slash's tone or a Pearly Gates N for a little more sizzle than the A2Pro, or a Seth Lover N if you want warmer tone than either and a pickup with a nickel cover.

The 59N would be a good choice too and will have more bass and, IMO, more spring to the highs. The Jazz N would have a little less bass than the 59N and even more zing to the upper harmonics than the 59N.

Any of those will do nicely. Or try experimenting with a 59/CC Hybrid with an A2 or A5 depending on the guitar or era you wish.
I think what adds mojo to Lew's advice is that when I read it I hear the voice of Yoda reading it to me in that small gruffled voice of his. I think as a reward for all the advice he gives, SD should have Lew design a pickup and call it the Yodabucker-1 :laugh2:

Re: Brown Sounds

I think its a fairly bright body that I have, so would something with a more predominant bass be better? Pardon my ignorance, is "59N" a neck bucker?

Im definitly wanting a "smooth" pickup, not so much an "agressive" one,

Thanks for the input so far guys

Re: Brown Sounds

Well, in that case I have a feeling you would love an A2Pro neck humbucker and Custom Custom Trembucker.

Re: Brown Sounds

Keep in mind that if you're going to put a Floyd Rose on your frankenstrat, that Eddie rarely used a Floyd in the studio. You'll have to make sure you get a pickup that will combat the extra brightness, unless of course you're looking for his live sound.

Good luck with the project.

Re: Brown Sounds

I think you'll be happy with it. And hey, if you're not, you can always swap it for a different one! I don't think you'll need to do that, though.
