BTB Wiring Question

I'm guessing this is the right place to post this. If not, mods, please move it accordingly. On my BTB 405qm, the blend pot only has the neck pickup, the bridge was out completely. Upon inspection, it seems one of the wires are broken. Anyone have a diagram I can go by to fix it? Never worked on a bass like this before. Only passives. So many wires in there :2:

Re: BTB Wiring Question

which wire is broken? the one going to the blend pot?

Re: BTB Wiring Question

Any chance of some photographs of the wiring in your control cavity, please?

Re: BTB Wiring Question

I'm having trouble seeing what is broken from the pic.

What you can do is find the broken wire, and then look on the potentiometer lugs for what looks like a piece of wire that has broken off. Just re-solder the wire to wherever it broke off and you should be good to go.

So just like a passive bass? Nothing to watch out for? I never had to worry about active stuff before so not sure what to look out for

If it is just one broken wire, the necessarily connection between two parts for normal function is not occurring. That is a characteristic of any circuit, active or passive. If there is nothing wrong with the preamp itself, and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong, then it is just a simple connection issue. If there is a wire that has broken off, just reconnect it to the same place it originally was - doesn't matter if it is active or passive in that scenario.

Re: BTB Wiring Question

+1 for the photograph not really clarifying matters.

it seems one of the wires are broken.

Have you found any actual broken ended cables?

If not, the problem could be a poor contact within the plastic block connectors. Remove one block at a time. Spray a little electro-lubricant onto the contact pins. Wipe away any excess. Replace the block. Repeat for the other blocks.

Looking in, I see what looks like a broken wire. Next to it, the pot looks like where it has broken off. Really hard to see at first though. But I'll solder it and see if that's it

Re: BTB Wiring Question

In the photograph, it is possible to see a few solder joints between cables that are not insulated. If, with the control cavity cover plate fitted, these joints touch against any metal parts, they may be shorted to ground, resulting in a loss of signal.

I'll make sure to cover those up too. Thanks man!

Re: BTB Wiring Question

Update! Found the problem. The wire broke loose due to lack of solder on the pot. But I resoldered it and covered the connections like Funkfingers mentioned and now it's as good as new!
