Budget power amp for Mesa Recording Preamp

Hey guys, this is my first post...:1:

I'm currently using a Mesa Rectifier Recording Preamp as my main "amp" for my guitar. In most live situations, I just run direct to the house with very satisfying results. However, I'm looking for a budget-level amplifier that would allow me to run from the Mesa outs directly to the power amp section of the amplifier, bypassing the amplifier's preamp section altogether. It's for those random occasions where I don't have a PA to run into or when I'm just jamming with someone else (I just run into my computer at home). I'd prefer something with a 12" speaker, but keep in mind "budget" is the key (otherwise, I'd get one of Mesa's power amps and a nice cab).

Would running from the Mesa's effects send to the effects return of another amp be a possible safe solution to this as well?

Thanks

Look into getting a pair of Tech 21's Power Engine 60's. I don't know how much they are, but they seem like they would work for what you want.

That would be a safe solution, yes.

However, If you're going to have a preamp, I'd rather just have it all rackmounted anyways... in which case Peavey 50/50's are awesome poweramps! Evergrey uses them with their Tri-Axis's when they aren't using 5150's.

I really like the Tech 21 idea. That is exactly what I'm looking for and it decently priced, too. The reviews I just read all pointed in the same direction as well.

Thanks!

You'll be able to build your rig up nicely if you buy a power amp, then a stereo cab or two small ones.

The Peavey tube power amps are the best for the cheapest....search the used market for 60/60 and 50/50. I like the 60/60 a little more. It's the closest you'll get to a Mesa for around $250.

Re: Budget power amp for Mesa Recording Preamp

for low dollars and small size, the crate powerblock gets great reviews ... you can feed the line in on the poweblock from the line out of your mesa and be good to go ... add whatever size cab you need for the situation all the way up to a 4x12" ... i use a carvin dcm600 into (2) 1x12" cabs, but you could consider the dcm 150 for lower dollars and still plenty of volume

good luck

Re: Budget power amp for Mesa Recording Preamp

get a RANDALL RP2/200 power amp. 200 watts/ side or bridgable that was made for the mts tube preamps. Randall just discontinued these (street price was around $700) and i'm pretty sure they are getting rid of quite a few on ebay. I bought one new + shipped for $250 and the guy seems to have quite a few of them. Is it a coincidence that randall is in chicago, and this guy (that has tons of new/ discontinued randall gear) is in norther illinois? Probably not.
