I hate Mesa Boogie Triple Rectos solos sound but love the lo end on power chords. What is a cheap mans version to get this tone?

Re: Budget version of Mesa Boogie Low End Tone

POD XTLive

B52 Solid State

Vox Valvetronix

those will get ya in the ballpark, but they are nothing like the real thing...can't get apple juice from an orange :D

BTW...the solo sound in the modern mode is not so hot, but there are great MK series type tones in the amp if you play with the rest of the amp. Most people just don't explore all the options available to them in a Recto.

Re: Budget version of Mesa Boogie Low End Tone

i hear that the madison divinity osunds very mesa-like and tight. the little vid clips that madison has on its site is nothing but lead, and it sounds pretty good. but i havnt heard too many clips of the divinity. rock solid amps has a clip up. but that was death metal, so i dunno if that would be good or bad for you

Re: Budget version of Mesa Boogie Low End Tone

hey .. I love the Rivera sound too, too bad i couldn't afford it that I gotten Marshalls instead

Re: Budget version of Mesa Boogie Low End Tone

A, you won't get the sound of a Recto anywhere but from a Recto, and they really aren't that expensive if you think about it.

B, take a listen to any Nevermore song, and tell me you hate the lead tone :p

Re: Budget version of Mesa Boogie Low End Tone

The solution: Footswitch the Recto with an amp you like for soloing...

Re: Budget version of Mesa Boogie Low End Tone

I think if you can't get a good tone out of a recto 1. you didn't fool around with it enough or 2. there is something seriously wrong with you.

I've always heard people say that the B-52 Stealth series can come pretty close to a recto for cheap. It is one of the only other amps out there that i know of that has a tube rectifier other than a Recto. Another suggestion is a Peavey 5150 or XXX, Peavey make great amps for a working mans wage

They really are very expensive. I couldn't scrape together even half the amount needed for a second hand rectifier. There is definately a market out there for something with that sound for less money.

I bet this is a US vs. Europe thing. They can be had here (used) for under a grand on a pretty regular basis.

Guess how much an F-30 combo (retail) cost my mate, in terms of American money? About 4000 dollars.

Yup, I just got mine today for 900 in minty condition, with new powertubes ;).

Peavey makes good stuff for the money, but it's so... overused, IMO.

XXX kicks ass, tho.

Depends on how good is good enough. I just flat out don't care for the way those amps are voiced.

Even if you were paying for it I'd rather own an F30 or F50 than any Recto I've ever played.

I suppose, to each his own. But i think that a lot of the bad reviews on rectos comes from bad settings. Just my opinion

Re: Budget version of Mesa Boogie Low End Tone

dude rectos rock! hard to make expensive sound with cheap tools

a violinist playing a 100$ version in an orchestra will really stand out, but not in a good way; hopefully they shred at violin

peavey xxx or modeler like vox valvetronix are good options, solid tools
