bugera 333 anyone?

Re: bugera 333 anyone?

I just bought a 1990 last week without even trying it out. I'm running it thru a Carvin 4x12 speaker cab loaded with Carvin 100watt british speakers. As far as reliability I used to own a 6262 head and I have never had a problem with the 6262 my friend who bought it from me about a yr has never had a problem with it and he uses it all the time. As for the 1990 I'm really impressed. As for the tone it is there, the cleans are awesome, the the lead channel has it going on aswell I tried it out in my living room(hardwood floors), my bedroom, my playroom in the basement, out in the garage and outside, my 2 strats, jaguar, and les paul sound great thru this head, it takes pedals thru the front alot better than my Crate Palimino 2x12 combo does what I was really impressed about is when I turned this amp all the way up and played it didnt lose what it had like alot of amps do. The only qualm I have about the amp is the knobs, they coulda picked some better knobs IMO. I've owned a couple Peavey's, a ton of vintage fenders, 2 mesa boogie amps, a marshall 1978 JMP, a JCM 800, a 900, a TSL 100 1x12 combo, a TSL 100 watt head, and b-52 AT-100, and if this amp holds up on the reliabilty end I will defend it. And I will be buying a 1960 head when I see they have 1 in stock LOL!

So....you turned it "all the way up"?

18w tube amp on 10 is f-ing loud....whats 120 tube watts like? The reason that quite a few amps 'lose what they had' at high volume is because you are damaging your ears....nothing to do with the amp.

Re: bugera 333 anyone?

YES I turned it all the way up on 120 and 60 watts, it was SUPER F-KING LOUD!!! I only did this for like 2 minutes, I wanted to see if it was gonna hold up or crap out. I will never do it again b/c I would really like to keep the hearing capabilities I have, my sweet spot on the amp volume wise is on the clean channel with the gain set between 5-6 and the volume on 3-3 1/2 and I'm good to go, not to low not to loud just right. Then I run my Wah, Behringer ultra metal pedal, Boss DS-2, EH big muff, small clone and Danelectro tremolo pedal thru the front of the amp and my EH holy grail thru the FX loop. I love the lead channel on the amp but the fact that it doesnt have a separate EQ for the lead channel makes using pedals a little more convient.

Re: bugera 333 anyone?

Bugera's goal is an EXACT copy of popular amps so they have no R&D cost. Also they use the cheapest components with the cheapest manufacturing processes to bring us that low price.

Therefore AT BEST the Bugera will sound only as good as what they copied.

I owned and played just about every version of the JCM 900 Marshalls all through the 90's and my Marshalls NEVER sounded as good as the 1990 I just played. I know they are Chinese built but the amp I played was no slouch in tone. I have owned $3000 + rigs that sounded WORSE:banghead:!

A lot depends on the voicing of the amp on perceived overall volume. Also many amps loose definition at higher volumes when they go into power tube saturation and get farty. Then there are amps like my Red Prosonic it will get killer low volume tones but at 3 or above is just LETHAL LOUD :eyecrazy::eyecrazy: and actually cleans up at higher volumes!! I doubt a 300 Watt Marshall Major would that that beast sheer volume wise!!

NO AMP WILL CLEAN UP WHEN YOU DRIVE IT HARDER...this is like saying you get better gas mileage when you drive faster.

Thats because the idiots running 100 watt tube amps into power amp distortion also have the gain on 10. There are many 18 watt amps that use power amp distortion and sound absolutely sweet. The difference is the "idiots" and the damage to your ears.

Re: bugera 333 anyone?

Ascension,
Did the GC that you tried out the 1990 have a 1960 on the floor? Did you play it thru a Bugera speaker cab if so how did that sound. I think for $450 I'm gonna have to get 1 of those 1960's too as soon as I see them in stock for. For know what I'm gonna do is play the crap out of this 1990 head for the next 6 months to see how reliable it is, then I'm gonna put a new transformer in it from Mercury Magnetics, then retube it with some JJ's 6L6GC's and preamp tubes.

Eh. I read that Bugera/Behringer will kinda... become disinterested in fixing your amp after the first ship in. They'll send you to someone else, and they won't guarantee that it will fix the problem and stay fixed/not break down again.

Re: bugera 333 anyone?

Crate was the same way when the circuit board on my V50 went out, they sent me to a service center 2hrs away and when the repair tech found out what was wrong and he tried to get the part's from them they told him they dont make repair parts for that line of amps, so I had to call Crate and complain and only after complaining they sent me a V50 Palimino 2x12 combo which was an upgrade from what I had in the first place.
