Bugera BVP5500 (€309) copy of Ampeg SVT-3 Pro (€1139)
Has someone played with both? the price tag between them is abysmal :eyecrazy:

I know what Bugera means, but I would like to hear real opinions of the amp.

Re: Bugera bass amp... any good?

i wouldn't trust them. i've read too many threads about reliability issues with bugera, along with shady business practices, to even consider their amps. when people ask me about the bugera amps we've got in the store, i immediately point them in a different direction.

granted, i've never played that particular model, so i don't know what it sounds like. who knows, maybe it sounds half-way decent. i wouldn't count on it lasting very long though.

Re: Bugera bass amp... any good?

I haven't played the bugera amp but I have owned a svt-3 pro halfstack (I own the svt-410hlf cab) for the last 6 six years. Let me tell you that no other bass amp comes close to a svt-3, IMO. It's my holy grail of bass tone. It delivers warmth, depth, and tons of punch. You can easily play ANY kind of music using this amp and the right bass. Hell, I even got to plug a double bass into it and it was epic! It's a growling low end, crisp top end, and smooth mids. The eq switch is pretty sweet. You can easily dial down another tone with the eq and switch between the two with a footswitch. This thing is very LOUD. I would always have to set my volume half way or else I'd drown out the guitars if I went any higher. The head is also very road worthy. It's built like a tank. I NEVER had any problems with it at gigs or in the studio. Put this baby in a SKB rack case and you'll be set. IMO, just like ppl say you can't really copy a marshall, it's the same deal with an ampeg.

Save up and never look back!

^holy sh*t... that's overkill.
I'm starting to play bass and I haven't thought about the amp... but probably I will get something in the line of this

Re: Bugera bass amp... any good?

LOL...the Bass 400+ is discontinued, but there are many floating around. The tone out of it is a head turner, but the newer bass amps that Mesa is making cover that ground pretty well.

If you are serious about playing bass, just save up and get a good amp right out of the gate....it saves sooooo much money over time. Just figure out what you need (combo/head/power etc.)....as a note, solid state combo around 150-300 watts will typically be underpowered with live drums and guitars. You don't need crazy power, but you need enough (600 watts solid state, or 300 to 500 watts tube...), and a good DI on it for the PA.

I wish I had done that with guitar, but I did do that with bass, drums, and guns. Buy nice or buy twice....it is worth the wait.
