Building a 1x12 cabinet

Hello, I have recently purchased an amp head that has cost me quiet a bit of money.
Instead of purchasing a new cab, I have decided to make one.
I have in my possession a Celestion Vintage 30. I plan on making it as a close-end.
I would prefer it to be a little wider rather than tall. Should I just use screws and glue?
Specific techniques and dimensions? Do I need any additional holes?

Welcome to the forum.

You should copy the dimensions of a Marshall cabinet, keeping the depth the same and dividing the height and width by 2. Don't port the cab. Celestions are tighter with more detail when there is a fixed amount of air behind them to dampen the cone travel.

Speakers are designed to have a specific amount of airspace behind them, so there are limits to what you can do with the dimensions without changing the sound. E.g. if you make it wider, you'll have to adjust one of the other dimensions to keep the same volume of air behind the speaker.

So choose a 4x12 cab, divide height and width by 2? Seems easy enough. I noticed some cabs have handles on the sides that appear as if they allow air to pass through.
Is this the case? So no ports at all, only hole I'll be cutting is for the speaker correct? Any other things I should be concerned? I plan to start production tomorrow with the gathering of materials.
