Built yet even more pedals....

OCDologist
i've gone on a pedal building bender and just can't stop lol.

to start my "RAT Fink" got a new enclosure...

the "Primal Scream" got a new red enclosure and a toggle for stock mids or bass boost...

then we have the "Moon Drive" which is based of a Distortion + with a bunch of mods and high end parts which make it more of a cool OD than a distortion and when used as a distortion it doesn't suck like a stock real D+ does lol. i did lots of messing with the clipping section and other cap values to get this thing rockin'!! also note, it's not a relic, it's a rat rod (hence all the hot rod decals). for you non car guys you'll have NO idea what that is but it's cool, trust me LOL. just ask wattage and butnut if you don't get it they will. :smokin:

i also have another pedal in the works but am waiting on some parts still so that won't be done for a few days.

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

Those are some awesome pedals Mike! You must really put alot of time into those because it shows :bigok:

I'm not really a pedal guy but the more I see people building them, it makes me want to start building some of my own. Sounds like a fun project.

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

Nice pedals Mike. You are really into this aren't you? :)

I like the Moon drive and I am not even a car guy!

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

Nice man! You're beginning to remind me of "Leader" off the Marshall forum, pedal building addicts!

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

Whoa, those look amazing man! Normally when i see peoples custom pedals, I always think "why bother trying to make something pretty if your just gonna step on it" But then again most custom pedals just don't look anywhere near this good, haha.

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

I'm gonna start getting into this home made pedal stuff. It looks fun, and i'm still not happy with any of my overdrives.

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

thanks guys!

i'm real into this pedal building along with my current guitar building now.

telecaster887...if you can solder a wire to a volume pot on a guitar you can solder on a pcb, it's real easy. just take your time and don't rush.

and don't use too much heat. you can burn boards, lift pads, etc.

just take your time and use flux if you need to.

XSSIVE, nice work brother. You will have the coolest looking pedal board ever.

y'all got me wanting to do that "Slow Century" pedal. I just bought a metal muff and i love it. I don't need another distortion pedal right now but you guys give me serious gas.

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

I've been wanting to build a pedal but when it comes down to it I don't know if I'd have much use for any of 'em. Maybe a fuzz? Any suggestions? I've had phase shifters but grow tired of them.

Maybe the wah over at buildyourownclone?

Mike, got a couple of questions about this whole thing if ya don't mind.

Where do you get your PCBs from? What about the other components? When you are messing about with cap values, are you doing it by ear, or is there scientific threory going on? Also, who does your paint jobs? they look really pro.

Cheers, great pedals!

Re: Built yet even more pedals....

thanks guys!

Steve...i'd go with an OD since there's always room in a rig for a good OD. but the wah would be cool too.

Kyuss...PCBs i like byoc the best, the quality and layout are second to none...very nice high quality stuff!! for all my other parts i use www.mouser.com, www.smallbearelec.com and www.pedalpartsplus.com oh yeah and good ol'
www.ebay.com :D when i mess with resistors and caps and clipping it's based on a TON of reading online and on several forums to see what possible mods there are for a pedal and what each one does and how it works. then i try a few things i've read about and a few thing of my own and mix and match a mod that guy A does with a mod guy B does and perhaps even using a part that i have and just want to try. lots of trial and error and going from the bench to the amp. doing this i think i nailed the perfect OD though and also made the D+ a useful pedal which in stock form is...well...not so useful lol. as for paint, some of them i paint and others i buy pre-powdercoated from pedal parts plus and then i add waterslide decals i custom make and clear them in.
