Did they even make a Custom in '54?
Yes.

The Custom was the first LP with the TOM and stop tailpiece.

Everything looks OK with that guitar- just not a trustworthy seller.

Thank you, exactly what I´ve been saying since the beginning.... without better pics it may or may not be legit.... the excessively yellowed binding and square pole p-90s lead me more to the "legit" side, though....

"hey honey, this house looks so nice from the outside"

salesman-- "well, lets go take a look inside"

"nah, its looks pretty good from here in the street, we'll take it!" :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Bull crap

isn't the cut-away point a little sharp. looked like it to me, but that pic sucks.

and by the way jeff, for 175k why would you want to buy a whole mexican, i'd hit tijuanna and buy 100,000 mexican ho's and see at least 500 donkey shows, with enough left over to buy a few burlap sacks of the mexican skunk and a life time supply of penicylin for whatever i contract from the 100k ho's.

or better yet for 175k american couldn't you just buy mexico?

I don't think it's legit as has been already pointed out the pickguard sticks out over the cutaway and that horn is definitely too pointy. I'm pretty sure that's a Gibson neck though.

Last I looked they were askinf 250Mil OBO, so that might work if there aren´t other offers :D:D

Intertestingly enough, It was less before they (thankfully and rightfully) removed tequila bottling rights from everyone else :laugh2::laugh2:

Re: Bull crap

I'm still not seeing anything wrong with the guitar itself.

There's a layer of striped binding that goes around the body of the guitar, if I'm remembering right, the pickguard is 5 layers B/W/B/W/B. The angle of the guitar (see the stand it's on- it's leaning slightly backwards) makes it look a little high, but it's right where it should be.

The flash on the horn of the guitar makes it really hard to tell about the shape, but there also may be a break in the binding there.

Again, it looks OK- given the crappy picture.

Re: Bull crap

Hard to tell. As many times as Gibson has switched from Klusons to Grovers as standard on Customs- I've just forgotten. But Gibson has used gold plated Grovers on LP Customs and ES-355 and other high-end models.

Re: Bull crap

there's some ridiculous stuff on ebay, this guy would probably have better luck though if he said jesus played it or something like that. some people in my art class were actually going to do an ebay art concept project where they post stuff like "dignity" and their soul for sale, it could work...
