buncha cool u-tube vids...classic guitar jams

Re: buncha cool u-tube vids...classic guitar jams

Those are cool, bro. Thanks for sharing. I haven't finished watching them all yet but the ones I have are cool as hell. I love how they do Frankenstein. Awesome job without the keyboard part.

Re: buncha cool u-tube vids...classic guitar jams

Guesstheres not much love for Frank :laugh2:

Dude's style is what I've always aspired to be as a guitar player...get in, get out, have the chops to show off when ya want to, but throttle yourself back most of the time. Have a sense of melody. Pay Homage to your heros but do your own thing at the same time. HUGE tone. ..lotta 70s influence, but much more aggressive and high energy....Gary Moore/Mathias Jabs-ish.

If he ever comes out my way, I'm going to see him. I missed Tesla last summer :(

Re: buncha cool u-tube vids...classic guitar jams

Hard to believe. Not enough "wheedly wheedly weee" I guess....:laugh2:

First time I ever heard Tesla I was floored by the tone. It was so thick and heavy compared to what was currently being tossed out there. The only ones that played SG's at the time where Iommi (with yet another incarnation of Sabbath) and Angus. Then seeing Frank playing one and playing how he does just floored me. Very underrated player IMO.

I reckon... either not enough sweeps or it's too fast :smack:

Like with Tony and Angus, it's further evidence *tone* is very much in the fingers. People always complain about SGs being thin. Listen to the other guys playing the paula and SG in freebird...they sound thin period compared to Frank. It's just an old late 80s stock SG standard with "crappy" gibson 498/490 pups too :rolleyes:

And no whammy bar? :eek13: :laugh2:

SG's are anything but thin IMO. The SG Junior I had in the 90's was fat as all getout. The P-100 it had in it was awesome. It was one of the best sounding guitars I ever had. Sounded great clean and really took to gain well.

Re: buncha cool u-tube vids...classic guitar jams

This is the lead guitarist of Tesla?

I heard "The way it is" in a bar about 2 months after I started playing guitar.

That song turned me onto 80s music.

That would be correct..Frank Hannon. Tommy Skeoch is the other guitar player in Tesla.. good player as well (little more 80s LA type style), but Frank is just a monster :bigthumb:

frank is oldschool...he don't need no sissybar! :D

Actually I've seen him with a Historic SG that has a lyre...I think he uses it for Edisons Medicine & Mamas Fool live...though after seeing that tuner trick...I'm not so sure now..

And yes P-90s are bad@$$ :bigthumb:

Re: buncha cool u-tube vids...classic guitar jams

What was he using for an amp?

Killer tone...

I've got an early 70s SG with T Tops, anything but thin IMO.

Sissybar? :lmao:

I don't think I've seen him play much of anything else other than SG's.

That was a P-100 in my SG Jr. ;)

Bluesguy: My guess is he's using a Marshall, probably of vintage flavor.

Re: buncha cool u-tube vids...classic guitar jams

In all those vids, he's using some kind of Marshall combos...They look like 800 series 2x12s, but I'm not positive.

His normal arena rig over the years have been heavily modded Hi-watts, and they sound like the biggest baddest 800s you'll ever hear :bigthumb:

Recently he had a custom sig amp by some "boutique" manufacturer...USA custom or something like that....it was based on his Hi-watts. I saw the website about a year ago, asked around here, but no-one knew anything about them. I think the company went under, and Frank doesn't seem to be playing them at these gigs in the vids ??? (which are all recent).

He's for most part a Gibson guy. I've seen him with paulas, the doubleneck, and recently some kind of Ibby or Washburn 335-style. But the vast majority of the time its that old SG standard.

100s..90s...whats the diff? :D

90's = not hum cancelling
100's = hum cancelling

Both sound bad@ss though. The P-100 is a bit thicker than the P-90.
