Burstbucker Pro doesn't please me

I have a 2018 Gibson Les Paul Standard with Burstbucker Pros and I keep tweaking and tweaking, but always get a harsh, brittle sound on the bridge pup and the neck pup sounds muddy. I have an 88 gibson Explorer with a SD Pearly Gates on the bridge which blows the LP away. I've adjusted pup height on the LP but I still don't like what I get: for a warmer, creamier bluesy-classic rock sound I was considering a set of SD Slash Al II. Yay or Nay? Any suggestions?

The slash bridge would be right at home in a LP traditional. Other options would be a '59b or maybe even whole lotta humbucker

Put A2s in your BB Pros before spending money on PGs. They sound pretty good with A2s IME. As stock, the winds are generally good, but they have too much output IMO. The A2s help with that.

I agree on the Slash...for something a little harder, look at the Whole Lotta Humbucker. With overdriven Marshall-levels of distortion, the Slash pickups are wonderful. They will get mushy if you throw dual rect-levels at them, though.

Yay on Slash. I just put one in my LP Studio with a 59/A4 in the neck and it’s paradise city and then some. Great thick rock tone, nothing harsh. It’s sits in between an A2P sound and a 59 and fixes everything people complain about both pickups. Like a 59 without the scoop and like an A2P without the big mid hump.

If I were you, I'd try A2's before buying a new set of pickups. Burstbuckers with a2's are quite good.

I would suggest a WLH set I have not heard of a single person that put them in a Les Paul that was disappointed.

My experience with them is in an SG, and I thought they were outstanding. And I don't even like hotter pickups that much.

They are Duncan's best sounding A5 humbucker, IMO.
