WOW !!! :32:

Pretty cool amps! I have a '51 just like the one in the auction.

Christian has a clone that my brother Bruce (http://www.missionamps.com) built for him

Incidently: there's a pair of old 50's Jensen P10R speakers on Ebay right now...same speakers as in this '50 Dual Professional only with silver baskets.

Honestly, if I was to go this route, I'd go with Bruce too!!!

Re: Buy this amp before Billy Gibbons sees it:

Saw that beast a few days ago...belive it or not thats about what those amps bring now!

I also saw those silver Jensens...

Re: Buy this amp before Billy Gibbons sees it:

I know it's collectible, but wouldn't a good builder be able to clone it 100% accurately? It seems like it'd be a lot cheaper to have it cloned with superior components, which will last another 50 years. Even as a collector, that thing is a bit ragged, don't ya think?

Joe,

That is exactally what Bruce did for me!

I really wanted one of those amps but refused to shell out that kind of green to get one...Bruce copied it 100% w/o any modern upgrades at all then I got a custom built cab for it that was copied from a 1947 Dual Professional (actually the guy that built the cab for me copied it from one of Billy Gibbons' Dual Professionl's!) then I put a killer set of Weber speakers in it and some NOS tubes (thanks again to Bruce) and I have an amp that looks and sounds just as good as the one in the auction, doesn't need any work because it's NOT 50+ years old, and cost a LOT less that 5k!

But it doesn't have that Mojo

For 5K, f*ck that mojo!!!! Save the money & make your own mojo:wink:
:laugh2: That's probably what I'd do. It would be VERY difficult to spend that much, even if I had thousands and thousands saved up for buying gear.

It's a cool amp, though. I'll bet it sounds heavenly.

Re: Buy this amp before Billy Gibbons sees it:

I think I would restore it and use it as a collector's piece. I'm sure you can build one that sounds better. The key is the Jensen speakers and the voltages coming out of the tranny.

A lot of people do not understand the correct sound from those amps can only be made with a variac set to 110 volts. You won't get the real sound of those amps with 125 volts coming from the wall.

So you would either need the variac or a transformer that will give you the proper voltage when seeing 120+ volts from the wall.

Not to mention the correct tubes.

Do they really sound that good? I never played through one and all the tweeds I played through or owned never sounded that great. I much preferred the brown/white and BF amps.

Sounds like one badazz amp. If you don't mind, how much did you have to pay to get it exactly the way you wanted? All I can say is "I wish I was a rich kid as a 5 year old, because I'll bet I could have bought up a boatload of those old 50's guitars and amps in the mid 70's for CHEAP! :yell:

So true... just imagine, all these vintage gems were sold for so little and now the value has skyrocketed. Makes me want to keep my Randall around to see how much it will be worth in 30 years. :laugh2:

Probably not that much...

The old tweed Fenders are rare...very few were made. There's zillions of modern amps that'll just be nice old amps thirty years from now but not rare.

Great point...I would like to see production totals on some of the old Tweed Fenders, 50's Fender and Gibson guitars, etc...there were just not as many of them sold in the 50's and early 60's!

Re: Buy this amp before Billy Gibbons sees it:

About old tweed amps with mojo vs. modern boutique amps like those Bruce makes: Bruce's amps have tons of mojo!

They're handmade by a real human being who pours himself into his work.

IMO, they're just as tonefully mojo-istic as any of my old tweed amps, sound just as good or better and are more reliable.

Also, the speakers in those fifty year old amps have to be treated with kid gloves or they'll blow...and that's no fun!

Again...Great point!

The V front Super that I have is brand new and sounds 50 years old...it has vibe and mojo all damn day long and the best part (aside from the fact that it didn't cost me 5k) is that it needs NO work at all...it's all new and ready to get used everyday for many years. Bruce does amazing work and is a hell of a nice guy to boot!

Yep! And those Weber 10's you're using are the equal of any of my old Jensens...better actually because they don't buzz and rattle and aren't going to blow anytime soon. What you have sounds almost exactly like the '66 C10N and '56 P10R I have in my '51 Super. My buddy Rondo uses the set you have in his '54 Super, BTW. Lew
