Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

I have no idea what you are talking about at this point...

Point is your right. I was thinking since the 64 Brazillian slab Strat i played sounded like Sultans, that a maple would sound different. Thos compounded by the fact the 57 Ash /Mpale Strat I played soundfed nothing like Sultans of Swing..so I gneralized.
Then I just found where Knopfler got Sultans tone WITH a Rpsewood Strat, so obviously you cannot say for sure one board will giv you a certaon sound. So I guies you must know each old Strta has ist personality, and it isnt dicated by if its a MAple or a Rosewood board.:alcoholic:dunno:

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

Not sure how Mark, his gear or his songs got into this at all...

I was simply stating that there are plenty of good sounding Tele's that have ash bodies and RW necks...

I was also statig that I'd be willing to bet money that if I had an ash/maple, ash/RW, alder/maple, alder/RW, basswood/maple and a basswood/RW Tele here and you were here that blind folded you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference...

I get the feeling that you listen with your eyes and not your ears...

Okay. My last post. have you at least HEARD of the taboo of Ash /Rosewood??:boggled:

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

Traditional thinking is 60's Alder with Rosewood boards are great Teles, yet nearly everyone reveres the blackgaurds with thier Ash/ Maple as being so much more epic.
If you go deep on Tele discussions on the net, you'll see that the Ash / Rosewood Tele is beyond just dubious mix; its downright abhorrent to many many in the know.
Its just something that shouldnt happen...

Shouldn't happen? Seriously, you read too much and don't think enough.

edit: It's like saying that a red car with a manual transmission and V-8 shouldn't exist.

Seriously, you post while drinking too much and don't think before you open your mouth

Fixed that for ya!

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

I'm with Jerry, here.

I mean, I have no idea what the **** he's rambling on about either, I just don't like rosewood boards on a Tele. Any Tele. No matter what it's made of.

Well, maybe a mahogany Tele-Gib. That might be fun...

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

So...getting back on topic, did you get anything Andrew????

This thread never left topic. As I said, Ash/ Rosewood is a notorious bad combination, and some builders refuse to even go there( I forget who at this time..is it USACG?..its a major Builder).
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ALDER/ROSEWOOD..although it isnt on par with Ash/Maple for respectibility.
Why dont you do some research..you are a great source of info , but you dont know everything, like you think you do.
I recently said how a Sound City L120m Amp has a huge problematic noise floor due to its interactive tone controls, and you came out point blank calling me an idiot. I owned the amp , an had an electrical engineer diagnose that issue IN WRITING, plus, if yuod get off your ass and look, there are threads on The Vintage Amp forum detailing the need to
reduce the noise floor on those amps, and one way is to by having the Amp effectively "Hiwatted".
Your a fool TGWIF.
By the way, I constructed a vwery expensive Warmoth Ash/Rosewood Srat with premium Warmoth parts as a 70's tribute.
It would NOT behave like an Alder Start..sounded awefull. I put a set of high output Strat Duncans ( SSL-3/2/6) and it came around.
Your know it all attitude sometimes puts you in over your head with stuff like this.

I don't even know where to go with this so I won't bother...

Go back to drinking just remember...when intoxicated don't post on forums, it lets people see you for the clown shoe you are.

These are the types of posts you make all the time then apologize for later...don't you ever get sick of living your life like a depressed 15 year old boy that has an alcohol problem??

Anyway, back on topic...again...Andrew, did ya get anything??

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

So...getting back on topic, did you get anything Andrew????

No I didn't, I decided to use some of the money on something else that was more important but I am still sitting on $400. This shop has a payment plan thing where you put down a minimum of $120 on a guitar and then take the rest you owe on the guitar and divide it by 3. So if I payed $400 on a tribute I would only owe $67 a month for 3 months which I am considering. I guess I am not in a rush because I am not leaving for a while but I did try some out and... a couple questions....

1. Did anyone notice that G&Ls are heavier? The ones I played were significantly heavier than the fenders, highway ones and mims. I played 4 of the 8 G&Ls they had and they were all beefy.

2. I absolutely LOVE the bridge pickup on those G&L teles, I forgot how much in fact. I am not sure about the neck but maybe if I got a Fender of some kind I would pick up a used mfd bridge pup. There is one on ebay for $47 right now but G&L sells them for $70 new if it really came down to it.

3. Those highway ones resonate!! The G&Ls were pretty good but the 2 highway ones I played vibrated like crazy. They didn't play as good but they also had worse set ups than the G&Ls... I want to check these out a little more.

But I am going to wait a bit a see, I am pretty sure I want a tele. I liked the tone on all of them and it will be a nice addition to my small, humble stable. :D

I want to look at the Players MIMs from Fender too. I have heard they were pretty good but I can't seem to find one around here. Mostly just std. MIMs and blackouts.

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

But the G&Ls did play like much more expensive guitars. I really like them and this is the direction I am leaning toward right now. I played a couple MIMs and they didn't really match up. The highway ones were close in quality to the G&Ls IMLE.

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

See, I hate those G&L pickups and I hate that the G&L Tribs are so heavy...and every single one I've played was heavy!

I have a Highway 1 as well as a MIM 50's Classic and I htink those both smoke a G&L...even a US made G&L.

They are just better guitars to me.

That said just fine what fits you and go with that...

Re: Buying a guitar tomorrow... maybe... help.

You're really something ya know that...

Loads of great sounding ash Tele's with RW boards....whats even more important that that to me regarding your post is I'd bet any amount of cold hard cash you can't hear the difference between an ash/maple Tele, an alder/RW Tele or even a basswood tele with whatever kind of neck on it...
