Bye bye Bogner, hello Marshall. NAD!

Got a new toy and its purple :D.
So far so good, it's got a nice thick/fat tone going on. Did I just fall madly in love with KT66 tubes?

Behold!

Nice! I never could get into the Bogner stuff. The best one (IMO) was the 100B, but it required a wiring mod to keep from catching fire. Effects loop sucked, but the amp sounded great.

Which Marshall is that? I'm thinking Vintage Modern, but the word after Vintage ends with an "a".

Re: Bye bye Bogner, hello Marshall. NAD!

hows the difference between the two foot switchable sounds? big volume boost?

Re: Bye bye Bogner, hello Marshall. NAD!

i expected it to be louder but wondering how much louder. a bit of boost is ok, too much isnt

Re: Bye bye Bogner, hello Marshall. NAD!

This is what I have learned from researching this amp. The amp was designed as strictly a single channel amp and should only be played as such. Its a great amp for picking dynamics and volume knob riding. Originally the high dynamic range was the only option, but then later the low dynamic range was added so that it could get the same effect as turning the guitar volume way down but by using a foot switch. Trying to use that as channel switch or a solo boost will result in frustration. The jump is too much. LDR works great with pedals, though.

It's a bit of a tricky amp to dial in. The mix ratio of the detail and body knobs is crucial and has more impact on the voicing than the EQ section. The amp has a post PI master, so it really needs to be set no lower than 5 for the best tone.

I can only imagine what a clean boost would sound like, or a treble boost better yet!

Well I'm using an Aion refractor and Queen of bone2 to give it a boost and all I can say is... they work so well with this one. I love the responsiveness, the crunch, yeah the Marshall bug got me.
I didn't find this amp hard to dial in at low volumes so far knobs are all very responsive and actually make a noticeable difference in sound when turned. Will see how it works out with the band but I expect it to be ok.
The music I play is all crunch and gain so it's perfectly suited for my style and with my new coil splitable guitar it all works out great, there are many great tones in this amp.

Good to know. I'm considering a used 2466. I have a JTM45, but I kinda want a 100 watt JTM45 type amp to have around too. Gotta love the KT66 sound.

Re: Bye bye Bogner, hello Marshall. NAD!

I think the VM is a hot rodded version of the JTM45?

There used to be a Vintage Modern forum and the designer Steve Dawson would post there on occasion. Dawson said it was based on the JTM45/100 but was capable of modern gain levels via an extra preamp tube. The JTM45/100 was a KT66 powered 100 watt plexi featuring the JTM45 preamp. It was the main amp Hendrix used.

Cool, it gets better and better the more I read about it :D. Mr. Dawson created something truly special! This amp indeed does everything from lush cleans to modern high gain and everything in between.
No regrets selling the Ecstasy, I can get all the tones I need and don't have to worry about where I take an expensive boutique amp anymore. Also, there are less knobs and buttons to fiddle with which forces me to play more and worry less. The KT66 tubes are magical to me, I prefer them over EL34's already. But I'm a 6L6 guy at heart so that's no surprise.
Only thing I wish this amp could do is have the mid boost foot-switchable.
Today I played it a little bit louder than I should have and I can't wait to take it to band practice and turn it up loud!
