BYOC Pedals

I've been thinking of getting one or two of the BYOC kits and was wondering if any of you guys have much experience with these, particularly in terms of sound quality. I think it would be fun to put the thing together myself and do all that but I don't want to bother if I could get something better for the same money.

The one I'm most interested in at this point is the Analog Chorus...I would really like to go analog so I'm staying away from the Boss Chorus' right now. Have any of you guys tried this pedal?

I'm also thinking about the TriBooster and the Optical Compressor, but would probably do the Chorus first...any thoughts on those?

The triboost is a pretty great pedal as long as you dont need a "master" volume control. I also own the analog chorus and i like it although if you build it to exact spec then it will have a slight volume drop when engaged. Its easy enough to cure though, the details are all on the BYOC forum.

Havent used any of their compressors im afraid. The only one that actually stayed on my board pretty much permanently was the envelope filter....really great pedal.

I have the opticomp as well as the octave fuzz and the drop-in wah.

Quality is excellent. Instructions are simple to follow. I love the sound of all my kits. It took a while to dial the wah in, but I'm very happy with it. The opticomp is a very nice comp with a soft attack. It's one of those "you don't notice it's there until you turn it off" effects.

I'm a fan - I have the delay (excellent), the Screamer (excellent) and the Graphic EQ. The latter was by far the trickiest to build and does have a tendency to clip but once dialled in right is also very good.

I built the 5 knob comp, the OD II and the Tremolo. All 3 are the best of their kind pedals I have ever tried- and they were easy and fun. If a boutique pedal builder did them, you'd be paying $350. I'm gonna build the phaser next.

I have the Mighty Mouse (ProCo Rat clone with extras). Totally impressed with the tonal quality—an absolute keeper.

I built the TS808 clone and absolutely love it! Good instructions, quality parts, I think they are great kits.

I've got the ESV fuzz, the Triboost, the Wah kit, and I did try their chorus kit briefly. Each one was very simple with easy to follow instructions, and had the side effect of getting me more interested and proactive in modifying pedals. The sound quality is second to none, whatever pedal you choose, you can be assured that it will be one of the finest examples of that type of pedal you'll come across. I still plan on trying their OD2 kit and their tremolo kit. Absolutely fantastic products, with a forum for support if you ever need it.

I run the Opticomp, love it.

I don't think it's soft or transparent though; but I "use it as an effect," not as an invisible goofhider.

Thanks for your input, I think I'm going to go for the chorus. If that turns out well then maybe I'll try some of the others.

If you build them well, have them built well or order them pre built they are pretty good units more often than not but the big part of the picture is the actual builder...
