C-5 in a ibanez? too hollow/thin??

I hear ALL the customs are the same pup with different magnets right?
what does the C 5 sound like in a basswood/lockin trem guitar? too hollow?
thin? how much power does the C 5 have?
I bought a set of wolfgangs for the RG and they did not sound good at all in it? in the wolfgang i played at the store they rocked which is why i bought them!
now i have to sell them and start over
tell me what you can about a C 5 in basswood which i understand is a midrangey wood,i would think the C 5 would balance real good in basswood then?

Nah i dont like the shape or the neck on those,they sound real good though! :laugh2:
my RG is a speed demon like a lamborghini or a porche' and the wolf is like a
honda civic :laugh2:

Personally, I like the CC a lot more than the C-5. The -5 version of the Custom seems too scooped in my axe (Carvin DC127T). Big Mids keep that axe happy. :laugh2:

My advice is that you buy a CC and an Alnico V mag. That way you can swap mags and keep the one you like. :burnout:

Me too! But I like the CC set really close to the strings, otherwise it sounds like it needs more highs and lows. Adjusted close, it's my favorite of the Customs.

I think the CC is a great pickup, but I am still trying to discover "my tone" and find the very focused tone of it too limiting. (Id love to have a guitar with one to play now and again)

The C5 works for me. A broad tonal spectrum. Chunky lows, (not flabby) clear highs (never Ice pick) and despite what people think , there is an abundant midrange. I just doesnt jump out at you like a CC. Matter of fact, I can crank the mids up on my Ultra plus and get a pretty good CC sound if I want to..
As Ive said before, the C5 lets the tone of the guitar shine through. It doesnt color/drown it out like some pups Ive played. So, I use the C5 in several diff guitars.. I thought that was not giving me much variety at first, til I realized that the character of the guitar shines thru, giving me different flavors. But, I can go to each guitar and maintain the same touch and easily get the harmonics and tones I want from the pickup.

No, the C5 doesnt sound thin in a RG. It has enough bottom and power to make up for the Trem loss and basswood loss. As a matter of fact, I changed out a tone zone and put in the C5 without my friend knowing. He walked in and heard me playing and said that axe has never sounded so good!!
I have a 59b in the neck, lawrence 250Hp in the mid and C5 in the bridge and a D-tuna on this axe and it can do it all!

From all the posts Ive seen from you on the subject, it seems you are very worried about mids.. Get a c5.. I dont think you'll be disappointed. If you are by some chance, put in an Alnico 2 mag and you'll have more mids than you'll know what to do with... :burnout:

i used to have a C5 in an Axis. this did sound a bit thin.. but thats EXACTLY what i was looking for.. i have no real experience with the RG series, but if a nice articulate sounding distortion is what your looking for.. the C5 is GREAT

I am not sure why so many diss the C-5 as you are correct in that it really allows the guitars to come through and gives TOTAL control at the amp. Keeps the bass nice and tight, strong but not dominant mids, clear highs.

A lot of people say the C-5 sounds small in the mix with a band but I find it usually sits nicely.

You have a d-tuna on your Ibanez?Is it a floating floyd or bolted to the body?

.....Let's not forget that he doesn't have to shift all the way down to an A2 magnet, should he be displeased with the C5.

A simple switch to the A4 may do. Or maybe A3.

I do have a D tuna and my trem still dives. I did carve a block of wood to prevent back pull so the DTuna wouldnt scuff the body.
