I put this pickup in my fat strat a day ago (trembucking problem posted yesterday)glad to report that i don't think it affected volume. But my ? now is this pickup doesn't seem to be very hot. it's not even as hot as the stock fender pickup i took out? could the fact that i had it wired to the stock volume nob have any thing to do with it? 250k pot. cut sustain too!
i play my strat into a cube 60 with ex cab. my settings:evil: sound really good with my esp with a jb in the bridge. but lackluster with the custom custom.

the 250k pot wouldnt have anything to do with how hot the pickup is, but theres no reason that should be using a CC with a 250k pot....you need a 500k with that pickup. Also, have you tried fiddling with the height of the pickup? I find the CC sounds good when set closer to the strings

Re: c c output?

The CC needs 500K pots. With 250K it will sound dark and it will affect the output. It is classified as a hot pickup but I think it's more medium myself.

The EQ Curve of the CC is so drastically different than the JB so don't be surprised if you need to readjust settings on your amp. That's just the nature of the beast.

And get it up there near the strings and use your ear to find the sweet spot. You can adjust the poles as well and gain, use your ears.

You've got it in the perfect guitar for it, now it just needs the minor tweaking like any new pickup would.

Re: c c output?

If the pickup that you got out of your guitar is a PG+, it makes sense. That particular pickup has quite a powerful a5 in it. CC has an a2 magnet, and don't get confused by the DC readings because CC is wound with #43 AWG wire (thinner), and PG+ is wound with #42. ;)

Sure 500K pots will help. But if you are using a single coil pickup in the neck spot, then I'd advise you to use a 500K resistor (to go with the 500K volume pot) to be activated for the single coils.

Re: c c output?

The CC should be distinctly "Hotter" than a strat single! And it will never have the high end of a JB - even with 500k pots and raising the poles for the high strings....nor would I want it to! My CC is artery cloggin buttery fat goodness in my LP - with 300k pots. But the mid still cuts through!

I've read a number of posts that say that the CC doesn't behave like a high output bucker and I agree. It just isn't the same creature as my distortion...even though you would think it would be. I really like it though - very distinct, very tasty - fat yet cruchy, cuts yet smooth. Dare I say ...corpulent? Chase it with a PG neck!
