C5 is definitely staying in the Hamer!

I got the C5 I bought from XSSIVE today, and also a CC I got off a Hamer Fan Club member. I tried the C5 first and it nailed what I was wanting! It absolutely sounds like what I heard in my head for this guitar, so it's staying. I have a '59 neck on the way to try there, and the second option if that doesn't jive with me is an APH. Since I already have the CC, I'm going to try it in the bridge of my partsocaster to see how I like it vs. the Bill Lawrence L-500R currently there. If the '59 works in the Hamer I'll try the APH in the strat's neck spot.

Oh yeah, and the neck pickup in the Hamer will definitely be a zebra .

The C5 is an exellent pickup! Though you might need to tweak your amp settings in a band situation to be able to cut through the mix. I always piss of the Bass player with the C5's huge low end .

Depends on the guitar. Mahogany guitars tend to be pretty mid heavy. I think thats why the C5 works well in those instruments. The one I am testing in my Cu22 is working real nice. Probably replace it with AII Pro when I get them back from MJ

This guitar is pretty mid heavy, especially the low mids. I always dial the mids about 2/3 of the way up on my amp anyways.

Beautiful guitar! Gotta love Hamer.

I did the C5 thing for a while but then settled on a JB with an alnico-2 magnet instead. Enjoy.

BTW, if you have a chance, try the Screamin Demon. I'm really, really having fun with it in my Special FM.

A guy I used to work with told me the screamin demon was just an overwound 59. I don't believe him, but he was probably using his ears and sound is what counts. From playing with both, how would you compare the screamin demon to the C5?

i've gotta stop selling c-5s before i use them LOL. i think i need to order another one down the road and actually use it this time LOL. that's 2 times i've sold a C-5 before i even tried it in a guitar. Enjoy it, glad you're happy with it!

No, but maybe if I get a chance I'll try to do something. It sounds much warmer than the standard JB, but retains it's ballsyness.

The Screamin' Demon in a set neck, non-trem, arched top guitar - I'd love to get the chance to try that out too. I have a Hamer Mirage (set neck, arch top, but 25 1/2" scale and non locking trem) with a Li'l Screamin Demon at the bridge. It's crunchy, has a cool "aw" vocal quality, and cuts through a mix very well.

Hey AJ, if it hasn't arrived already, you should get the 59 today. I'm the dude on the Hamer board who sold it to you. That is one sweet guitar you're putting it in. The flame is awesome and that tobacco sunburst is gorgeous.

That guy is dead wrong. It doesn't sound like an overwound 59 at all.

I'd try the CC in the bridge as well just to compare. I've tried both the CC and C-5 in my Hamer Monaco Elite and I like the CC so much better. But heck, its really a matter of personal choice. For the neck you probably won't go wrong with a 59, but I gotta say I have an APH neck in my Hamer also and its nothing short of beautiful.

The SD is a lot more balanced from the mids to lows compared to the C5. It's also brighter, which I like for lower gain work.

Agreed...to me it sounds like an underwound distortion or underwound JB without the mid spike.

I'm thinking the CC would be a bad match for this guitar, it's so strong in the mids already that the C5 made the overall tone very balanced. I'd imagine the CC would make this guitar sound WAY too middy amplified.

That said, since I do have it sitting here I'm going to try it in the bridge of my strat (alder body, maple/maple neck) once I find an APH to try with it in the neck. I'm thinking that setup could sound pretty killer, we'll see how I like it versus the Lawrence 500R/C setup that's in there right now.

I had a CC in my Special FM for a while and it did sound pretty good. Then again, I boost the mids on everything. Good to hear you like the C5 in the Hamer. Heck, good to hear you like the Hamer. Right now, I've got an APH-1 in the bridge with a Seth in the neck of my Special FM. Killer smooth. I think the 59 would balance a little better tonally with the C5, but I also love an A2 in the neck for smoothness. I don't think you could go wrong with either one of them.

I like C-5's in any mahogany guitar. It's one of my favorite Duncans.
It works especially great with EL-34 amps.

It'll sound good in most guitars, but if a guitar has no naturall mids, you're better off with something like a CC or JB.
