C8 - Losing Articulation Under High Gain?

Ive got 3 guitars with the C8: 2 Schecter PTs (fat guitars, more bass than a strat) and a Strat. ...The C8 seems slightly brighter and artciulate in the Strat than my two PTs.

I play modded Marshalls, hard rock to some early to modern metal. The C8 is starting to underwhelm me. I'm like the clarity of the WHL in my Les Paul, but I'm also looking to swap that out with something a little less bright with my Splawn. However, the WHL is more clear and brigher than my C8 in the PTs.

Perhaps I should look at going back to the Custom SH-5 or even the 59/Custom, as I'm beginning to like medium or medium-hot pickups as I find they are more aticulate, have more clarity.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I may leave the one in my Strat, but in my Shecter PT's, those guitars are fatter and heavier than my strat. They are kick ass guitars, btw, espcially for the price!

If you've already messed with the usual adjustments, and you're not satisfied, maybe try the Alternative 8. Definitely thicker and less plinky than the Custom 8.

Get a distortion neck pickup for the bridge, try it as is or with an A8/A5. It is an underwound version of the custom, this or a screamin demon.

It's hard not to lose articulation when you push your amp with a hot pickup. That's why I love the Demon and original El Diablo. They aren't so hot that you lose articulation, but they have a more modern personality.

The original PATB is like a custom....sort of. But that design is all about being more articulate with gain without becoming sterile.

I don't know about the voicing and heat being to your liking, but a Full Shred will stay well defined with lots of gain.

Totally agree. My Crazy 8 (Alnico 8 mag with the PATB form factor) is huge sounding, but still has great definition. I use it for very heavy music and it can always be heard in a band mix.
