Cab simulation pedals?

Do they make any? Are there any good ones?

I'm just wondering if you've got an amp-in-a-box that doesn't have a cab sim, are there any cab sim only pedals you could run after it? And I don't mean cab sim software, I mean in pedal form.

I know, it doesn't really make much sense, just buy one that does have a cab sim, but just for the sake of discussion and curiousity.

Yeah there are a few out there. Some allow you to load your own IRs, some have set IRs that you can switch between.

OK, but that's more for sending the output of an actual amp into it, right? I'm talking about sending the output of something like a Tech21 SansAmp into it. Or do you think that would work in this situation as well?

It also takes line level.

Re: Cab simulation pedals?

Hi NotCardio,
The Hotone xtomp pedal has amp and cab simulations. I use a Tech21 fly rig5 with it and a Tech21 Power Engine60 as my "amp". Some might prefer a true FrFr speaker, but this low power solution using a Celestion 70/80 works fine. The quality of all the fx in the xtomp is very high.

Re: Cab simulation pedals?

For Analog cab sim pedals: AMT CN-1 Chameleon Cab, Behringer Ultra G (GI100), this one that I got for $20 & actually sounds pretty cool :bigthumb:

I have all three & they're all very useable/effective..

Digital stuff (IR loaders) will cost a lot more but some think they sound better: AMT Pangea, the Two Notes Torpedo stuff etc..

Re: Cab simulation pedals?

All of the Tech 21 (Blonde, US Steel, etc) stuff is analog, and they are all great, at least the several I've tried- I now have a FlyRig 5. But a few IR-loader pedals came out at last winter NAMM that are supposedly really good, too.

I think he is looking for something that only does cab simulation, not amp simulation.

Re: Cab simulation pedals?

I currently use a Radial Direct Drive, and I really, really like it.

The marketing suggests it's an amp simulator, but, IMO, it is really a cab sim box.

I like it b/c it is very simple, yet has tons of different outputs (cab sim on, cab sim off, XLR, 1/4") so you can route your signal different ways, e.g., simultaneous DI (cam sim on) and bypassed out (going to a real amp/cab).

It is one of the few pieces of equipment I've never felt the need to replace. It just works.
