Cab Wiring Freaks and Amp Gurus Required

Hey Folks,

I've pretty much mastered geeking out axes and sundry guitar goodies, but recently became the proud owner of a head / cab(s) setup, and have a question or two, which unfortunately may show off my exceptional ignorance in the theory, and practice of this catagory.

First off, the head ( a Rivera M60 ) is just fine the way it is, so no problems there. It came with a 1X12, and a slant cab 2X12 - also from Rivera - which are really quite nice. The 112 even has a speaker upgrade, so I'm pretty much splitting hairs from here on out.

OK, so now comes the geek-o section. I have a 15 W Celestion which is truly amazing, and I've taken it from it's old haunt in a Deluxe,in the process of unloading the Deluxe. OK, you saw this coming. Is it even theoretically possible to put the 15W in the "slant" portion of the 212 emphisizing the high frequencies, while carrying the bulk of the load in the bottom 12 with say a 60, 90, or 120 W speak ?

Any comments, links, etc would be helpful. *Mild* ribbing will be tolerated.

Thanks!

IMO, the only way you could successfully pull this off is with some sort of crossover network, be it active or passive- passive crossovers can suck alot of power, and don't usually work well with guitar amps. But remember, the 15 watt speaker, even with a higher power speaker still can only take about 15-20 watts before self destructing.

You can probably pull this off depending on a couple of "ifs" and "buts". If, the Celestion is an 8 ohm speaker, make your bottom speaker 4 ohm. (Connected in parallel.) That will cause a one-third/two-thirds power distribution. 15 watts will go to the top, and 30 watts to the bottom.

Then, just don't "dime" the amp. Should be ok. Maybe. :)

I'd stick a Red Fang in there instead, call it close enough, and rest easy that I was less likely to blow it up.

Hmm, OK, thanks. Maybe I'll save the Blue G12 for some other nifty project that comes along. ( Note to self : blowing up is bad )
