Hey.
I recently grabbed an empty Peavey 2x12 cab for cheap cheap cheap and I want to use it as a 4x12 using the speakers in my AX2 combo as the other pair to make 4. All the speakers I have are 8 ohms and I have to end up with an 8 ohm load. The Peavey is closed back with a 1/4" socket and the AX2 is open backed, so I need to be able to wire the Peavey so that I can run a lead down from the AX2 and plug it in, but also have a lead that comes from my Power Amp to the AX2 first.
I will represent the speakers as 1, 2, 3, and 4. 1 and 2 are in the AX2, 3 and 4 are in the Peavey. Here's how I think I would do it and maybe someone can confirm or correct me:
starting from the amp: tip to 1+, 1- to 2+, 2- to sleeve. The Peavey cabinet would be wired tip to 3+, 3- to 4+ and 4- to sleve.
With this, both cabinets are 16 ohms. Now, If I connect 1+ to 3+ and 2- to 4-, if my meter is correct I have an 8 ohm load.
Can anyone confirm or correct this?
Thanks!
Trevor
