Cable advice and questions

Re: Cable advice and questions

I have two Monster cables in my gig bag that have been there for over 10 years. I don't know what you guys are doing to cause them to fail but mine are as good as the day I bought them

Re: Cable advice and questions

IF you are up to the solder job, I would always go for the DIY. It well get you cable you would have paid twice the money for if you bought them in store.

So get a soldering iron, some plugs a couple of feet of cables and go!!! Personally I like the Spirit XXL cable by sommercable.

If I really needed all the cable I would go the DIY route but since my rig is so small right now I think it's easier to Just buy some cables. I decided to get two Whirlwind Leader Elite Cables 18.5ft for $40. From what I have seen these cables last decades and sound good. My guitar teacher had a whirlwind cable and he's had it for years.

Yes the length makes a difference. Definitely you will hear something different between 30 feet vs 6 feet. But 10 vs 15 maybe not so much difference. Just do a test.

Anyways, I found a great cheap cable called Planet Waves American Stage.

Great choice.

And indeed it can be an investment to go the DIY route, it will pay off in the long run though, when you buy enough plugs and cables you can be settled for the next decade or so, including all your custom length patch cables and new guitar cables
