Cables???

What are you all using? I have a monster cable and George Ls... and I can't tell a difference between them honestly! I am thinking of ordering more George Ls, just to have more for when I get pedals and stuff.

Also I hear that if you have a buffer in your signal, then it doesn't matter if it is a radioshack cable, or a mogami cable? Any truth there?

Truth is relative.

If you don't hear any difference then to you there is no difference, so the cost cannot be justified.

So which truth is your truth ? :)

Re: Cables???

this isn't a good test, but I had a 25 footer (APC brand I think) coiled up on top of my amp, and I brought home a Monster Rock 12 footer, and the Monster Rock sounds way punchier and phase accurate.

Re: Cables???

Seems to be allot of differing opinions on this stuff... basically I don't want high end roll off, and I don't want them too break! I really only use 4 pedals (RMC wah, Planet Waves tuner, an overdrive (still looking for the right one) and my EVH phase 90). I don't know how important it is to have 300 bucks in cables you know? I found the other thread on this in search, but if any more info, please let it out!

Re: Cables???

I use Spectraflex cables and home-made Mogami/Neutrik patch cables. The cloth covering on the Spectraflex cables make em real easy to deal with, and they sound better than George L's to my ears. The DIY cable route is pretty cost-effective in the long run too.

I wouldn't say that if you have a buffer that it doesn't matter what kind of cable you use, though it lessens the impact of using a crappy cable.

Re: Cables???

http://www.redco.com for mogami/neutrik and really any other cable/connecter needs you'd ever have.

I use Planet Waves for my guitar -> pedal run, Monster/Neutrik patch cables (got the cable for free and had extra ends, otherwise I wouldn't use Monster at all) between pedals and from pedals -> amp (they sit ontop of the amp).

Literally every cable I use for recording, though, be it guitar -> DI, mic -> pre, or interface -> monitors is the Mogami/Neutrik combo from redco.

Re: Cables???

Thanks VK and KG... I found the cables, and they seem very affordable. Which cable is recommended? Just the standard instrument cable?

Re: Cables???

I (try to) only use Planet Wave cables. There is nothing I hate more than a cable 1) actually having a tone of it's own and it 2) interfering with the tone of your guitar and amplifier. I like my cables to be seen an not heard, so to speak.

Re: Cables???

I use a Monster Rock cable which is great but apparently they aren't consistently good.

I've never needed to buy another one in a few years, but previously I owned 3 Planet Waves cables which all broke quickly.

George L's are good and seem to have a consistency in build quality so if you want to buy more cables, go for them since they're cheaper than Monster.

Re: Cables???

i bought a reel of bright orange van damme cable when they were blowing them out (EU regulations about lead in electronics or something..)

that and neutrik jacks has served me well :D

Re: Cables???

i have a CORE X2 pedal board kit on back order...i've heard good things about them...i look forward to getting it and trying them out!

Re: Cables???

I use monster rock to my board and from the board to my rack set up. Everything in the rack and the two things on the board (wah and tuner) are wired up with george l's.

I've never noticed any issue with this combo and it seems to sound pretty good to my ears.

I like the warranty on the monster stuff, one goes bad, you take it to guitar center and get a new one.

If you don't hear a difference between Monster and Gerge Ls then chances are you won't hear a difference between any cables.
If this proves to be the case then buy any reasonable quality construction cable that's cheap.

Re: Cables???

I use Dimarzio cables, I can't hear a difference in cables either. I try to go midrange with cables that way they last me a few years.
