what are ur favorite cabs? i know im getting a dsl50 head but i feel the marshall cabs are overpriced. anyone else feel this way? maybe playing a marshall through a different brand cab will get a unique sound? well anyway, what do u guys think?

btw what companies make cabs that have eminence speakers stocked in them?

thanks

Re: cabs

Those are sweet prices on cabs!!! I wish I had gone that route instead of buying 2 marshall cabs. I would have saved alot of $$$. Thanks for that info brotha!!!

Re: cabs

avatar sells 'factory-direct' and does not advertise or have any name recognition, therefore they are dirt-ass cheap. They use baltic birch plywood, the same stuff mesa or marshall uses. As for construction quality I really can not say as far as comparing between brands but people seem very happy with them. They also sell them on ebay but they don't seem to go for much less than they cost new... most likely because people see the specs on them and are willing to pay 250 for them used although they might not realilze they only cost 275 new! Another option is to actually build your own cab, which is not as hard as it sounds and will give you sound as good or better than what you see out there any day. There are schematics and whatnot out there on the net if you are interested.... I would never buy a different brand of cab because otherwise all you are paying for is the lettering on the front. The speakers are where the tone is.

I might have been misinformed on this one but aren't Marshall cabs built from MDF?
I've heard that as well. Perhaps it's the cheaper series of cabs that use MDF. I'm happy with my 900 series cabinet, it's voidless birch construction, with stock, English-made Celestions. It has an appealing, classic-look, which I'm fond of. :32:

Re: cabs

I use Rivera and Hiwatt cabs, which are very rugged, sound phenomenal, and weigh a ton. They are, unfortunately priced to match, so I would say that if you think the Marshall cabs are too rich for your blood, dont' bother looking here ...

This is something I've beeen wondering. I heard that even on the higher end cabs Marshall's had MDF back panels.

Re: cabs

Avatar cabs are KILLER. I got one of the G212H specials to use with my Mesa Rectoverb head. The pairing of the V30 and the G12H30 is beyond excellent.

Re: cabs

I've always preferred the matched look, so I'd say to buy a used JCM 800 or 900 Marshall cab to go with your DSL. It'll just look better to have the grillcloth on the head and corner caps match with your cabinet. My personal favorite is the 1960AV, which comes with 4 Vintage 30's. Since you're on a tight budget, I'd put out a wanted ad in your local music trade magazine, searching for a JCM 800 or 900 black
4-12....cash in hand. All the guys who've ditched their halfstacks in favor of small combos will come outta the woodwork and call you to unload their monster.
Find the guy who'll take $300 for his Marshall cab in excellent condition. You'll probably have 4 offers to choose from. Wanted ads work like a charm.

Re: cabs

i really like the krank cab and the bogner cabs, but theyre too pricey. and those avatar ones look so saweeet. ill probably end up getting one of those or a kustom cab. well, we'll see.
