calling all full shred users

I was trying out some different wiring schemes on my rg921 and while checking my work by tapping on the individual coils on both my full shred pickups, I noticed something peculiar.

What I discovered was this:

Both pickups had their bridge side (seymour Duncan lettered ones) coils SIGNIFICANTLY stronger magnetically than the non lettered neck side coils. In others words, my screwdriver was attracted to the lettered coils pole pieces with a rather strong click and i had to PULL the driver away. while the non lettered coils seemed to be barely attract the screwdriver.

they both do this equally.
Anybody else have or notice this?
What causes it?

Re: calling all full shred users

well i just tried putting a key on my bridge Full Shred, the magnetic pull seemed to be the same on both sides/coils of the pickup ... maybe your screwdriver has a magnet tip itself ? could that be the reason why it's happening to you ? or am i just brosciencing hard right there

Re: calling all full shred users

Not sure. I will check that later. I'll try it with an Allen key as wel.
Now that I think of it, that makes sense. I very well could be a North to north/ north to south thing.

Thanks for the direction.

Re: calling all full shred users

Are you in the north or south hemisphere? Because, you know, magnetic polarity on pickups is affected by the same phenomenon as how water circles the drain in a different direction. No other magnets...just pickups. Its all science, homie!

I was in Japan and I never saw it run a different direction. Maybe http://www.snopes.com/science/coriolis.asp is appropriate right about now....

Re: calling all full shred users

most likely the screwdriver tip is partially magnetized in one particular direction, even if it isn't itself magnetic.

some of my screwdrivers just tend to be partially magnetic and can attract screws even though i haven't touched the screwdriver to a magnet in ages.

Re: calling all full shred users

Yes but when people said this (about Japan), I investigated and found it to be false. In researching why they say it, I found the link above, which also says it's false.

Re: calling all full shred users

Yeah, I love Snopes. That's where I found out that Mr. Ed was a zebra. :)

And now, back to the OP's thread.

Re: calling all full shred users

And I could be possible I was totally talking out of my exhaust port and have no clue as to the north south thing in magnets or water in different hemispheres - or Japan. :D

Re: calling all full shred users

Calm down guys! Nothing wrong with the earth's poles! My screwdriver is apparently magnetized. I tried an Allen key and they coils were equal.
I also tried flushing my old mim start pickups down the toilet........they didn't rotate either way............what does that mean?
Are my toilets defective? Should I go ask for ones that swirl a certain way? I want to be part of the club tooooooo.

In all seriousness, has anyone "aired" or "half aired" a Duncan pickup?
