Came across my very FIRST amp in my parents attic while visiting tonight....

Re: Came across my very FIRST amp in my parents attic while visiting tonight....

Not being a party pooper, but there is no need to celebrate mediocrity for excellence. Yes, it's a treasured family heirloom that I am sure will be passed down to future generations of guitarSQUIRRELs ... but that doesn't turn this amp into something it's not.

Stop trolling this thread and go back under your bridge....If you cant say something nice and positive, keep it to yourself Mr. Negativity.....

Thanks, Rant Over....

Hear hear! Let's start the New Year off right! :headbang:

No need to be a party-pooper... it's an heirloom and a great memory!

guitarSQUIRREL, that thing looks pretty fun! My first amp was a little tiny Crate with about a 6" speaker and a HORRIBLE distortion... (come to think of it, it had a horrible clean channel too!) I would absolutely add that puppy back into your gear arsenal... you never know when it'll come in handy!

Fella, its already made it back into the arsenal lol

Re: Came across my very FIRST amp in my parents attic while visiting tonight....

The ear has no memory.
Have we reached the stage where virtual guitar amps and digital simulations have lowered the bar so significantly that this old piece of junk is now considered a decent amp?!

Or maybe we've progressed in our abilities to get better tones out of gear than we previously could.

I get better tones out of my collection of 90s solid state amps now than I did my original 5150 in the late 90s.

Re: Came across my very FIRST amp in my parents attic while visiting tonight....

my first amp was a Roland VGA3 from 2002. The only amp model that sounded good was the Soldano model.

Re: Came across my very FIRST amp in my parents attic while visiting tonight....

My first amp was a ss Ross 1X12 combo that was way louder than it had a right to be.

My buddy has a 100es with the shaggy 4x12 cab. Just replaced two of the Jaguar speakers (damaged) with Celestion 70/80's. The thing sounds massive.

The OP's Peavey Companion practice amplifier looks similar to the Audition model from the Eighties.

Er, that is all that I can contribute without being accused of negativity.

T. O. is telling the truth. Those tiny SS amps were well built but sounded terrible. Wear rose-tinted spectacles, if you insist.

Somebody pee in your cornflakes?

Those amps are really really good small practice amps.I have basically the same one as the OP. Big round lows and decent cleans-big sounding(well, I did put a Pyledriver Trucks style 10" speaker in mine) -I couldn't part with mine.
