Or from the strings being take-off and put again so the neck it been tensioned and "de-tensioned" again and again.

You pickup-change addicts may know the answer!!

Re: can a guitar suffer from many re-strings?

Dude, I was just going to post something similar! I wax-potted my pickup covers last night, which required me to take the strings off. Well, when I put them back on and tuned up I had all kinds of string buzz :yell: :yell: :yell: Prior to this my baby was playing better than ever. I just got her set up a couple of months ago.

So I think the answer to your question is YES. The guitar is not damaged, however it does need to be setup (or slightly tweaked) again. When you change your strings, you should only do one string at a time so the tension doesn't change (you'll always have at least 5 strings on it this way). Hopefully all that needs to be done to get rid of my buzzing is a slight turn of the truss rod??

Hey guys... anyone have any good websites on how to setup your guitar or cure string buzzing? I'll check the Vault now...

The guitar won't suffer but the strings will...they'll go dead if you loosen them, remove them and reinstall them several times. Lew

Re: can a guitar suffer from many re-strings?

I would assume that it would be ok to do this to a guitar, because what would be the point in making something that doesnt even stand up to the changing of one of its most changeable components???

Re: can a guitar suffer from many re-strings?

ive heard that is was bad for the neck, but ive also heard that its good for the neck to relieve tension. the only thing thats ever happened to any of my basses after doing it was that i had to readjust the action with my bridge.

when my strings start sounding dull and i have no cash to replace them atm i usually take them off and wipe them down with household cleaner and put them back on and they sound almost new for a short while.

Same happen to me, that's why I started the thread. I just wanted adviced from people with more experience. I am a pickup-change adict too and I wanted to know if I could harm my guitar with the re-strings. Now it is clear...

Thanks for the info, everyone!

Re: can a guitar suffer from many re-strings?

i do it all the time and i dont think it hurts anything. how else can you dress frets, clean the finger board ect... except without strings on the neck. i wouldnt worry.
as far as setups go, the only one i know of on line is at the mr. gearhead link from fender
