Can a Tele be used for Hard Rock?

Re: Can a Tele be used for Hard Rock?

You can play ANY type of music with ANY type of guitar. Period.

I question whether you or some other people who have posted in this thread actually read my post. My question wasn't so much can a tele be used for hard rock, but what is required (if anything at all) to make a tele hold up relatively well with humbucker equipped guitars in a hard rock live situation.

a lot of the anwsers i think answered that one...

my MIM tele was a shocker to me at just how nice and full it sounded with lots of bottom end to it! As long as you can live with 60 cycle hum it is a winner for hard rock....

My Tele sounds thicker and fuller then any of the stock strats i owned... So many people use stock strats for hard rock so why not a tele....

But that being said i could see replaceing the stock pickups with humbuckers or at least some sort of higher output pick ups for hard rock... I love my high gain set ups and a single coil thru some of my high gain amps don't work very well as the noise kills some of the joy...

A big amp.

I'd get a noisegate if i was going to use single coil pickups for high gain. Or buy humbuckers/noiseless singles

Other than that, rock on out with your tele. Should go great

Oh yeah, I read it. The only requirements in my book are the stock Tele and a Marshall (or an amp in the same class).

Re: Can a Tele be used for Hard Rock?

I use a Gibson with buckers and a 15 watt amp (1X10 apeaker). Our other guitarists uses a Strat through a 1X12 solid state.
I need to raise the volume on my amp to high levels to keep up with him.
Want to cut through the mix while playing with other guys? use a bigger amp and use more mids/treble...
The rest is about getting the tone you want.

Re: Can a Tele be used for Hard Rock?

I use this for hard rock all the time. Sometime people poke fun calling it a Springsteen Special, until they hear it :)

That's the only one in this thread I would consider for hard rock/metal. I have 3 teles all have Hot Rails in the bridge. Not saying the other suggestions wouldn't work, but can you imagine playing Slayer convincingly with a quarter pounder?

I read your post just fine. You don't need anything else besides a Tele and an amp with comparable power. Teles cut through everything.

Yes and no.

So I guess that's minus the "Period" in your statement.

"Back In The Day" when it was cool to have all the beat up Fender stuff, I was playing in a "indie rock" band and I had (among other things) an old Jag, Jazzmaster and Esquire. As much as I tried to make them scream like my Les Pauls- they always sounded... not right. I have a pic of a session from recording our album- it's my Jazzmaster and Esquire with my Goldtop and LP Special. Most of the record was done with the Goldtop and Special, but the Jazzmaster and Esquire made it onto one song a piece- both were much cleaner pieces. I love the J. Mascis Jazzmaster thing, and Telecasters are serious rock guitars- but they've got to be loaded with pickups and amps that match their strong suits.

Re: Can a Tele be used for Hard Rock?

My bro's MIJ Tele with Duncan quarter pounder in the bridge sounds HUGE...almost like an LP.

Listen to anything by the Black Keys and try telling me Teles don't rock hard.

My buddy just got me onto the Black Keys. I definitely dig them.
