Never tried the 5-2's, tho I've sold alot of them to Tele players.
I've compared the Twangbanger to a stock '63 Strat bridge pickup, Duncan Jerry Donahue, Duncan Antiquity Tele and the Surfer Custom bridge tho.
Compared to the Surfer Custom bridge, the Twangbanger has alot more QUACK and CHUNK to the mids and the treble is not quite as sharp and glassy.
I think of quack as just that: the sound a duck makes!
I don't think of it as being the chimey Dire Straits "Sultons of Swing" or Clapton "Bell Bottem Blues" tone you get from a Strat when the neck and middle pickup or middle and bridge pickup are combined. That tone doesn't remind me of a duck!
To me, humbuckers have tons of quack. Eric Clapton's old tone when he played a Les Paul had tons of quack. To me, he kind of invented that quacky tone...or at least exploited the heck out of it.
But Clapton doesn't play with a quacky tone anymore....not since he started playing Fenders.
Anyway, the Texas Hot Custom bridge and Twangbanger have more QUACK than the Surfer.
