Can anyone describe "PAF Tone"?

Where do the Gibson T-tops fit in this equation?

T-tops are generally lower output,...somewwere between a mini bucker and a typical PAF. They are cleaner and brighter...opposite of the Duncan Alnico II tonally, but about the same output level-wise.

If you want to hear some really kick butt paf tone, listen to TRUTH by Jeff Beck. Those are some great pafs in the Les Paul Beck used for that album. Lew

Thanks Lew. I completely forgot about that album:smack: . Especially 'Ain't Superstitious" & "Plynth" (I think "Plynth" was on that album).

Re: Can anyone describe "PAF Tone"?

T-tops are mid 60's and on and are standard A5 7.75k ( give or take). There is a "T" on the top of the bobbin. Pat #'s fall between the PAF and T-top. There really is no definitive PAF "sound" but there are general characteristics, such as top end sparkle, note bloom, hollow mids and a lot of "wood". Generally the best sounding PAF's have a mix of all of these.
